Two major polyacetylenes and two minor polyacetylenes in extremely low quantities were isolated from fresh Korean giseng roots. The petroleum ether-ethyl ether fractions containing the polyacetylenic compounds were collected through the solvent fradtionation, partion, and silica gel column chromatography. Further separation of polyacetylenic fractions were proceeded by bonded normal phase HPLC using moderately less polar microparticulate column. The chemical structure of these two major polyacetylenes separated were determined by UV, IB, ¹H NMR, ^(13)C NMR, mass spectra and elemental analysis, and were identified as heptadeca-1-ene-4, 6-diyne-3, 9, 10-triol(I) and heatadeca-1, 9-diene 4, 6-diyne-3-ol(II).
