Second, it is based on his own experience. “Geumgangjagi” states that he had been to the scene where the incident occurred. The epic poem “Geumgang” is also known to have been fully explored and written, constituting an unforgettable space. As a poet, Shin Dong-yup loved the “Geumgang,” and wrote poetry and prose about the death at the Geumgang River. Third, the sentence composition shows that “Geumgangjagi” was composed as prose with the classic arrangement of “Geumgangjagi.” Works using the motif of death, an inexhaustible source of inspiration for him, appear several times throughout Shin Dong-yup’s poetic career; he sought to use life (poetism) so as not to remain in death.
