대주는 마조 스님을 6년간 시봉한 후에 은사 스님의 노환으로 마조를 떠나게 된다. 그리고 저술한 『돈오입도요문론』 한 권으로 마조에게 인가를 받는 조금은 특별한 경우에 속하는 선승이다. 그가 저술한 책은 마조의 선법보다는 신회의 선법을 그대로 계승한 것이 두드러진다. 마조의 선법은 일상의 평범한 중생의 마음과 부처의 마음이 다르지 않다는 “평상심시도(平常心是道)”의 형태로 중생의 마음이 곧 부처의 마음이라는 중생즉불(衆生卽佛)의 선법으로 홍화(弘化)한다. 하지만 대주의 선법은 제불진여법신의 청정한 마음을 ‘무념(無念)’이라고 하고 ‘깨달음’은 청정한 마음자리에 반야지로 ‘무소득 공(無所得空)’을 체득하는 것이라고 한다. 위산영우는 백장회해의 제자로 마조에게는 손상좌(孫上佐)가 된다. 위앙종은 영우와 제자인 혜적을 말하는데 이치와 진리가 세상의 일들이 서로 다르지 않다[理事不二]는 불가분리(不可分離)의 관계로 ‘무심한 것이 도(無心是道)’라고 하여 ‘깨달음’의 높이를 ‘평상심(平常心)’으로 홍양(弘揚)하였다. 이러한 ‘도’의 일상화로 인하여 무심의 경지에서 일어나는 수행은 닦을 것이 없이 닦는[無修之修]다는 선수행법을 제창하였다.

And it says that the ‘realization’ is the learning of the ‘unearned nothing’ as a banyaji in the pure heart. As a disciple of Baizhang Huaihai, to Majo, Wisan Youngwoo is the sonsangjwa. The Wiang Sect talks about Youngwoo and Hyejeok, who is a disciple. Regarding the relationship of the inseparableness that says that the reason and the truth and the happenings in the world are not different from each other, by saying that being indifferent is the Tao, it had done the hongyang of the height of the realization into the ordinary state of the mind. Due to such a making of the Tao into the everyday life, the method of the seon practice, which says that the practice that takes place on the stage of the indifference is cultivated without there being anything to be cultivated, had been advocated.
