현재 중국 선불교에서는 ‘염불시수’라는 화두를 보편적으로 하여 ‘참화두(參話頭)’ 수행을 하고 있으며, ‘간화두(看話頭)’라는 이칭으로도 사용되기도 한다. 이 ‘참화두’와 ‘간화두’는 바로 ‘화두’를 참구하는 선불교 수행법인 ‘간화선’ 수행이다. ‘염불시수’ 화두로서 참구하는 방법은 한국의 ‘이뭣고’ 화두와 똑같은 참구방법으로서 ‘본래면목이 무엇인지’를 참구하는 ‘간화선’ 수행이다. 현재 중국에는 ‘간화선’ 수행전통이 없으며, ‘이뭣고’ 화두는 한국에만 있고, 이 시대에만 있다고 하는 주장에 대하여, 그것이 불리워지는 명칭이 다를뿐 중국에도 ‘간화선’이 보편적인 수행으로 자리 잡고 있으며, 한국의 ‘이뭣고’ 화두 수행법과 똑같은 ‘염불시수’는 중국의 ‘이뭣고’ 화두라고 간주할 수 있으며, ‘염불시수’ 화두참구는 ‘염불선’이 아니라 ‘간화선’이라는 것을 입증하는 것이 본 논고의 목적이다. 현재 중국에서 ‘염불시수’ 화두로서 수행하는 ‘간화두’에 대하여, 구체적으로 허운화상의 『참선요지(參禪要旨)』를 통해서 ‘염불시수’의 연원과 화두 참구법을 한국의 ‘이뭣고’ 화두와 대비시켜 논증하고, ‘염불시수’가 중국 선불교의 ‘간화선’ 수행의 대표적인 화두이며, 중국의 ‘이뭣고’ 화두라는 것을 입증하여, 현재 중국에서 사용되고 있는 ‘간화선’의 다른 명칭으로서의 ‘참화두’와 ‘간화두’에 대하여, 그 용례를 근거하여 중국에도 ‘간화선’이 널리 수행되고 있음을 전개하였다.

Currently, In Chinese Chán Buddhism, there is practicing concentration “Canhuàtóu (Chinese; 參話頭)” with the topic(hwadu) of “Who is calling the Buddha(念佛是誰, niànfóshìshuí)『” in general, and is also used as the name “Kànhuàtóu (Chinese; 看話 頭)”. This “Canhuàtóu” and “Kànhuàtóu” are practicing concentration on the “Ganhwaseon(Korean 간화선看話禪)”, as a practice method in the Seon Buddhism that embraces “Hwadu (Chinese; huàtóu)”. The method to do as a “念佛是誰” huàtóu is the same as Korea’s “Imwotgo(What is this』 Korean; 이뭣고)” hwadu, practicing concentration the “Ganhwaseon” in which to put up with “what’s your original true self『”. Regarding today China’s claim that there is no tradition of practicing concentration the “Ganhwaseon” and that the “Imwotgo” hwadu is only in Korea and that it is only in this era, the argument is that the “Ganhwaseon”, the name it is called is only different is a universal practice in China’s “念佛是誰” as well as Korea’s “Imwotgo” hwadu method of practicing concentration the “hwadu”, and that the purpose of this paper is to prove that can be regarded as a Chinese “Imwotgo” hwadu, and to do as ‘念佛是誰’ huàtóu is not “Yeombulseon(Seon of calling the Buddha念佛禪)” but “看話禪”. On the current ‘看話頭’ practicing concentration in China as a ‘念佛是誰’ huàtóu, the origin of ‘念佛是誰’ huàtóu and it’s practice method are compared to the “Imwotgo” hwadu of Korea through 『參禪要旨(Great Master Xu Yun: On Essential Points of Ch’an Training)』 of ‘虛雲和尙(Xuyún heshàng)’ and proving that ‘念佛是誰’ huàtóu is a representative hwadu of Chinese Chan Buddhism and is a Chinese “Imwotgo” hwadu and then as for ‘參話頭’ and ‘看話頭’ as other names of “Ganhwaseon” currently used in China, it also said that “Ganhwaseon” is widely practiced in China.
