Vinyl house consists of main rafter, lateral member, clamps and polyethylene film. Many vinyl houses are used in the countryside to grow vegetables. These vinyl houses have occasionally been collapsed due to heavy snowfall in winter. Many farmers get a lot of economical damages, if vinyl houses are collapsed. So it is most important to built a safe vinyl house that can withstand heavy snowfall. In this study, a structural analysis was performed on three types of vinyl houses(07-single-01, 10-single-04, 12-single-01). In addition, the structural analysis of the three types of vinyl houses provided axial forces, flexural moment, and combined stress. For these three types of vinyl houses, structural safety was reviewed by obtaining the combined stress ratio by the strength design method. This structural review showed that the specifications for the vinyl house proposed in the design are not safe. Especially, the result of increasing the design snow load by 15 percent and 30 percent showed that the vinyl house structure constructed as a standard for vinyl house was a more dangerous structure. Therefore, it is necessary to revise regulations such as increasing the thickness of rafters or widening the gap in order to make vinyl houses structurally safe for heavy snowfall in the future, and to devise diverse methods to make vinyl houses that are structurally safe.

This study focuses on the evaluation of severity measures used for accidents associated with industrial machines and devices. In particular, duration of medical treatment, duration of work loss, number of deaths in an individual accident associated with industrial machines and devices are evaluated in various ways to assess the severity of the accident. The number of accidents with work loss of longer than 1 year as the severity measure and the number of accidents as the frequency measure appeared to be the most discriminating information and allow risk assessment based on these frequency and severity measures for grouping of industrial machines and devices. Results of such risk assessment further confirmed the re-classification of industrial machines and devices that are currently subject to safety certification (SC) and self-declaration of conformity (SDC) or selection of those machines and devices that are newly subject to SC and SDC.

A palladium can adsorb hydrogen and detect leaking hydrogen through changes in color and electrical resistance. This study is to evaluate the structural behavior of carbon fiber adding palladium composite materials used in the hydrogen storage vessel. A multi-scale analysis technique was used to analyze accurately the behavior of each material in relation to the microscopic composition. The multi-scale analysis is more proper and precise for composite materials because of considering the individual microscopic structure and properties of each material for composite materials. Also the crack evaluation was performed by XFEM analysis to confirm the reinforcement performance of aluminum as a liner of the hydrogen vessel. The results show that the addition of the palladium material increased the macroscopic stress, but microscopically the carbon fiber stress was reduced. It means the performance improvement of the palladium added carbon fiber/Al composite.

Recently, the number of facilities and users of zipline which is the most popular among extreme leisure facilities has been increasing year by year. Zipline is a means of transporting durable wire between two timber or stay and moving the trolley connected to the passenger at high speed in the opposite direction. However, due to the nature of the zip line facility, the risk of accidents is always present and safety accidents are frequently occurring. Therefore, this study investigates the current state of safety management and extract the problem in terms of safety management through analyzing the installation state of zipline facilities in the case of accidents and reviewing of similar facility regulations. In order to solve this problem, we will contribute to establishment of comprehensive and systematic countermeasures and establishment of safety improvement system by suggesting measures to improve safety management through analyzing foreign regulations and safety management regulations for zipline and other extreme leisure facilities.

Bikers can be subjected to accidents during their bicycling. Helmets are only good, if any, for their head protection. A wearable airbag can protect the human neck area if it is properly designed. This airbag system is composed of an inflater and an airbag. The inflater contains a pressurized gas cylinder and a piercing device. The airbag is an inflatable fabric surrounding the human neck. When a bicycle accident happens, a sensor captures the motion of the biker and a microcomputer sends a signal to open a valve in the inflator to supply the pressurized gas to the airbag. An important issue of this system is that the airbag should be quickly inflated to protect the human neck. This paper deals with the airbag inflation time simulation and some issues to design a wearable airbag system. Also, a prototype was tested to show its feasibility using a human dummy mounted on a running cart.

After the Tianjin Port explosion on 2015, it is highlighted that securing safety for dangerous goods in Korea and try to establish safety standards for railroad dangerous substances transport. In Korea, the regulation for the transport of dangerous goods is stipulated to need 3 buffer cars. However, It is inefficient that 3 buffer cars. because 3 buffer cars, increase transportation too much costs in transit and it is too strict compared to other country rules. The purpose of this study was to improve transportation efficiency by mitigating the criteria for isolated railroads through rational safety assessment. In order to verify this, we used a risk assessment software which is PHAST 7.2 developed by DNV GL. We calculated safety distances that could prevent ignitions setting up scenarios when relief system work installed on a train loaded with propylene, nonane. As a result, we confirmed that buffer cars can be reduced from three to one. This result would be implemented in the application of Korail.

The Half-depth precast deck is a structural system that utilizes pre-cast panels pre-built at the factory as formwork at the construction stage and as a major structural member at the same time after completion. These systems have joints between segments, and the detail and performance of the joints are factors that have a very large impact on the quality, such as the constructability and durability of the bridge decks. In this study, strength performance evaluation was performed for improved joints using connecting rebar by experimental method. Static loading tests were conducted on the test specimen with improved joint, those with existing joint and those without joint. The test results of the specimens were compared to each other, and the flexural strength required by the design was compared. The flexural strength required in the design was presented by finite element analysis. It has been shown that the flexural strength of the specimens with joints were more than twice that required by the design. But the flexural strength of the specimen with existing joint was about 84% of that without joint. The flexural strength of the specimen with improved joints was a nearly similar degree of that compared to the specimen without joint. And a comparison of the moment-deflection relationship curves of the two specimens also shows a very similar flexural behavior. It is confirmed that improved joint has sufficient flexural strength. In addition to strength, the bridge decks require serviceability, such as deflection and cracking, and in particular, fatigue resistance due to repetitive live loads is an important performance factor. Therefore, further verification studies are required.

For preventing the accidents generated from the chemical materials, thus far, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) data have been made to notify how to use and manage the hazardous and chemical materials in safety. However, it is difficult for users who handle these materials to understand the MSDS data because they are only listed based on the alphabetical order, not based on the specific factors such as similarity of characteristics. It is limited in representing the types of chemical materials with respect to their characteristics. Thus, in this study, a lots of MSDS data are visualized based on relationships of the characteristics among the chemical materials for supporting safety managers. For this, we used the textmining algorithm which extracts text keywords contained in documents and the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) algorithm which visually addresses textual data information. In the case of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the United States, the guide texts contained in MSDS documents, which include use information such as reactivity and potential risks of materials, are gathered as the target data. First, using the textmining algorithm, the information of chemicals is extracted from these guide texts. Next, the MSDS map is developed using SOM in terms of similarity of text information of chemical materials. The MSDS map is helpful for effectively classifying chemical materials by mapping prohibited and hazardous substances on the developed the SOM map. As a result, using the MSDS map, it is easy for safety managers to detect prohibited and hazardous substances with respect to the Industrial Safety and Health Act standards.

Secondary accident is common type of accident which occurs in Korean highway tunnels. Fatality rate of secondary accidents in highway tunnels is six time higher than primary accidents. Video type VMS is a new way of providing information to road users which was recently introduced by Korean government to prevent secondary accidents in highway tunnels. In this study we compared changes in driver's behavior when information is provided by Text type and Video Type VMS. In addition to analyze effects of secondary accident reduction, driving behavior was analyzed based on providing advance information by video type VMS at tunnel entrance. Analysis showed that both text type and video type VMS has similar effect on driver behavior. Video type VMS showed positive effect on driver's behavior to prevent secondary accident when information is provided 1km ahead of accident. Considering there results and the short-term memory characteristics of driver, it was determined that information should be provide at about 650m from the entrance of the tunnel. The results of this study are consistent with the requirement that VMS should be installed at least 500m ahead of tunnel and produce more accurate providing information points. 650m is also appropriate interval for providing information in tunnel to cope with an accident ahead.
