Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of self-assertive training applying the reality therapy techniques (SATART) on self-esteem and internalized stigma of schizophrenia patients. Methods: This study was a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design and enrolled 55 people with schizophrenia (experimental group=27, control group=28) from two community mental health centers. The SATART was offered twice a week for 6 weeks in a total 12 sessions. Data were collected from February to April, 2017, using the Korean version of the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. The collected data was analyzed using x2 test, independent t-test, one-way ANCOVA, and repeated measures ANOVA with using the SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvements in self-esteem and recudction of internalized stigma compared to the control group. However, there was no significant improvement on stigma resistance measurement among the subscales of internalized stigma between two groups. Conclusion: The findings indicate that the SATART program is effective and could be recommended as a psychosocial intervention for selfesteem enhancement and internalized stigma reduction of people with schizophrenia.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between perfectionism dimensions and postpartum depression among parturient women between 2 weeks to 12 months, using the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS). Methods: Participants were 150 women who had their infants examined for health in two public health centers in a city. The participants completed a self-administered questionnaire, which included the FMPS, Postpartum Depression Predictors Inventory-Revised and the Korean version of the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (K-EPDS). The data were analyzed using independent t-tests and a multiple linear regression. Results: The prevalence of postpartum depression was 43.3% (K-EPDS≥9.5). Multiple regression analysis showed that postpartum depression was significantly associated with parental criticism (β=.21), concern over mistakes (β=.19), postnatal maternal blues (β=.22), history of depression (β=.20), social support (β=.13), marital relationship/satisfaction (β=.14), prenatal anxiety (β=.17), and self-esteem (β=.15, all p values < .05). These variables explained 57.2% of the variance in postpartum depression. Conclusion: Parental criticism and concern over mistakes are personality dimensions that can be exhibited by participants and are therefore associated with the development of postpartum depression in parents of infants. The perfectionism assessment is needed to detect postpartum depression and develop strategies to provide effective and preventive interventions.

Purpose: The objective of this phenomenological study was to explore nursing students' emotional experiences in the school life. Methods: Twenty-four nursing students participated in the study. Data were collected from May 2017 to February 2018 using focus group interviews and later analyzed using the Colaizzi's method. Results: In our study, 311 meanings were obtained from the participants, including 19 sub-themes and seven theme clusters. The seven theme clusters were; 'looking back on the past,' 'face to reality,' 'recognizing me,' 'anxiety about uncertainty,' 'nursing student's way,' 'looking around,' and 'patting for my mind.' The emotional experiences of nursing students in college life were classified into four categories: 'self-reflection for growth,' 'discovery for growth,' 'hoping for growth,' and 'search for the growth.' Conclusion: Although nursing students may be equally exposed to anxious and stressful situations, their activities, adaptability and levels of achievement vary depending on emotional experiences of each person. Considering the continuous curriculum of nursing, it is necessary to develop emotional management strategies and relevant training programs considering different types and levels of emotional issues for the nursing students.

Purpose: Smartphone overdependence in young adults is a growing issue, that requires a vigorous approach to manage its associated problems in the affected ones. This study was designed to suggest a detailed direction to help university students with smartphone overdependence, who would be internally motivated through satisfying their basic needs based on the self-determination theory (SDT). Methods: The data were collected via face-to-face interviews with twenty program providers, who have managed the program for preventing and treating the smartphone overdependence. All interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed. The data were analyzed using directed qualitative content analysis. Results: One core category emerged from the findings: 'Empowering motivation of autonomous actor of change associated with environmental context,' which three generic categories and seven subcategories supported. Apart from the three basic needs in the SDT, autonomy, relatedness, and competence, no additional concepts were mentioned, but the participants complained about the practical difficulties of running programs with non-motivated students. Conclusion: Our study findings emphasize that research and clinical practice for young people with smartphone overdependence should focus more on developing detailed program contents synchronized with theoretical and conceptual guidance.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to explore operational definitions and moderators of the resilience of adult children of alcoholics (ACOA) and its associated variables. Methods: This integrative review was conducted based on a literature review method suggested by Whittemore and Knafl. Databases including PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and RISS were searched using the combinations of search terms such as; 'adult children of alcoholics,' 'parental alcoholism,' 'resilience,' and 'children of alcoholics.' Results: Seventeen studies were selected for this review. Findings of integrative reviews reported operational definitions for the resilience of ACOA and moderators. The operational definition of ACOA's resilience is: (1) having no behavioral and emotional problem, (2) meeting social and developmental expectancies, (3) having the ability to cope with adversity, (4) having high self-concept, and (5) having a meaningful relationship. In addition, the varying environmental moderators include family communication, qualities of caring environment, parental communication, parentification, and social support. Several moderators were identified as positive effect, self-esteem, alcohol-specific coping style, locus of control, spirituality, the image of God, and dyadic cohesion in marital communication. Conclusion: Our study findings emphasize comprehensive understanding of diverse definition of resilience and moderators in developing nursing interventions to promote resilience in ACOA.

Purpose: The purpose of this integrative literature review was to synthesize contents of emotion coaching interventions (ECI) for parents and explore unique changes in parents, parents-child, or child outcomes. Methods: This research was conducted according to Whittemore and Knafl's integrative review method, which encompassed problem identification, literature search, data evaluation, data analysis, and presentation stages. Relevant searching terms in English and Korean were used for eight electronic databases: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane library, CINAHL, RISS, KISS, NDSL, and DBpia. Results: A total of 28 studies were selected: 16 Korean and 12 non-Korean ones. Among the selected studies, the ECI for parents was found to be effective in regulating both the parent's and child's emotions. The contents of the ECI seems to be applicable and understandable using self-reflection, emotional competency improvement, and emotion coaching proficiency, especially for demonstration and maintenance of a positive attitude. Conclusion: The ECI was an effective intervention which is helpful for child rearing, emotional regulation, and social competence for parents. In addition, it had a positive effect in regulating behavioral problems in children through interventions provided to the parents.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to (1) develop an acceptance commitment therapy (ACT) based recovery enhancement program for inpatients with mental illness and (2) test the effects of the program on patients' psychological flexibility, recovery attitude, and quality of life. Methods: A mixed methods design was used: a combination of a repeated-measure design with a non-equivalent control group and qualitative data collection. The participants were 41 inpatients with mental illness (experimental group: 20, control group: 21). The ACT based recovery enhancement program was conducted over four sessions for a total of two weeks. Data were collected from December 2018 to January 2019. Results: Study results revealed that the ACT based recovery enhancement program was effective for psychological flexibility (F=150.71, p<.001), recovery attitude (F=60.22, p<.001), and quality of life (F=31.59, p<.001) for inpatients with mental illness. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the ACT based recovery enhancement program can be used as an effective mental health nursing intervention for psychological flexibility, recovery attitude, and quality of life of inpatients with mental illness.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore educational needs of communication, focusing on how nursing students evaluate their current communication skills and what students think is most crucial in communication competency. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study collected data from 276 nursing students at multiple universities from September to November 2016. Main analyses included descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, and one-way ANOVA with SPSS/WIN and R 3.2.3, as well as importance-performance analysis by Martilla and James. Results: There was a difference in the perceived importance of communication depending on field experience. Students who reported excellent communication skills compared to their peers had higher perceived communication importance than those who reported similar or inferior skills. The perceived need for dominant communication of goal setting skills was the highest. After confirming the list of priorities for Borich's needs assessment, the education need for goal setting skills was the highest with 1.79. Conclusion: Our study findings emphasize that the highest need for education of nursing students was the dominant communication of goal setting skills. This is needed to develop an education program that can strengthen goal setting communication for nursing students with a special focus on dominant communication.
