Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of job stress, health promotion behavior and health status among the Korean female navy soldiers on warship. Method : This study was a cross-sectional survey design. The participants were recruited from different navy fleets located in Korea. The collected data was analysed using IBM SPSS/WIN version 21.0. Result : The mean score of job stress, health promotion behavior, and health status was 27.85, 2.37, and 1.66, respectively. The level of job stress was statistically significant in such categories as the ship classes (p=.021) and ship working period (p=.013). Job stress (r=-.58, p<.001) and health status (r=-.57, p<.001) were significantly correlated with the level of health promotion behaviors. Job stress was correlated with health status (r=.38, p<.001). Conclusion : The results of this study support that strategies and interventions considering the ship working period are necessary to decrease the level of job stress. Also, self-care promotion program and affordable medical resources should be provided for health of korean female navy soldiers on warship.

Purpose : The purpose of the study was to survey health management behavior among North Korean refugees with a focus on living in North Korea and third countries. Methods : The data were collected from 124 North Korean refugees between October, 2014 and January, 2015. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results : 73.4% of the participants perceived their health status was acceptable and more, but their perception on their health status in third countries got worse. North Korean`s primary health problems while living in North Korea were gastrointestinal symptoms and diseases. The most frequent response to illness was to get medicine at market places. Smoking and drinking rate was 33.6% and 40.7% each. Nutritional status in North Korea was poor and main health behavior was taking herbal tonics or nutritional supplement. The participants had almost no experience in taking health education in North Korea. Conclusion : North Korean defectors preferentially need education for health management to improve their health status.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of U-healthcare service on physiological index, biochemical index, health promotion behavior, intention to maintain exercise routines and job stress among ROK army officers. Method : This is a quasi-experimental study with one-group pre and post test. The subjects were recruited from one miIitary unit in ROK army base located in Korea. We provided the participants with U-healthcare service for three months. Physiological index, biochemical index, health promotion behavior, intention to maintain exercise routines, and job stress were measured. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, and χ2-test. Result : The effects of U-healthcare service on blood pressure, body weight, cholesterol, and health promotion behavior were statistically significant; however, the effects on Intention to maintain exercise routines and job stress were not statistically significant. Conclusion : The study supports that U-healthcare service is effective improving ROK army officer`s health promotion behavior.

Purpose : This study was designed to identify the nursing needs of patients and nurses, to examine the difference of nursing needs between patients and nurses in military hospital. Methods : This study followed a cross-sectional survey design. The convenience sampling was used to recruit the participants form four military hospitals. The self-reported questionnaire was then used to survey nursing needs. Finally, t-test, ANOVA was used to analyze the responses of 150 patients and 99 nurses. Results : Nurses` nursing needs scores (4.07±0.45) were higher than patients` nursing needs scores (3.92±0.61). At the postoperation state, there is different nursing needs between patients and nurses (t=-3.190, p=.002). Conclusion : This study suggested further research about nursing needs between patients and nurses in military hospital, and adequate nursing intervention at the preoperation, postoperation and discharge state. It is necessary to develop a tool to examine nursing needs reflecting the military base. The key findings of this study can be a strategy of quality improvement.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to analyze the research trends about stress of occupational military personnels in Korea and suggest the direction of future studies. Methods : 55 researches from 1985 to 2016 were analyzed by the years, subjects, main concepts and research designs et al. Results : Among the 55 studies, 49 were for a degree, 5 for academic journal. There were 52 quantitative studies, 1 qualitative study, and 2 other types of study. The most common research design was a correlational research. The majority of study participants were army, junior officers and nurse officers and the main concept in most studies was job stress. In correlational studies, the stress had positive correlation with depression, burnout, emotional labor and had negative correlation with job satisfaction, job involvement, job performance. The main research tool was the modified job stress tool from aboard. In quantitative studies, the reference for sampling size, ethical consideration and theoretical framework were not found enough. And there were few experimental and qualitative study, and other types of study. Conclusion : So I suggest that various methodological research approaches are needed for more multidimensional and in-depth analysis of the stress of occupational military personnels. And also further research into navy and air force are needed.

Purpose : The aims of this study are to investigates the levels of Cultural Competency of Korean Army nurse officers and to identify the factors influencing on Cultural Competency. Methods : A cross-sectional descriptive survey design was used. Data were collected from 238 nurse officers in seven Korean military hospitals in December, 2016. Cultural Competence Scale, Compassionate Competence Scale and Professional Self-Concept of Nurses Instrument were used. Results : The Cultural Competency of Korean Army nurse officers was significantly different due to factors such as foreign language fluency(p=.015), experience of living abroad for more than a month(p<.001), caring experience of foreign patients(p=.001), presence of foreign friends(p<.001). There were significant correlations between cultural competency, compassionate competence and professional self-concept(p<.001). In the multiple linear regression analysis, the significant factors influencing cultural competency of nurse officers were compassionate competence (p<.001), presence of foreign friends(p<.001), professional self-concept(p=.002) and experience of living abroad(p=<.033). These factors explained 32.8%(p=.001) of this model. Conclusion : In order to improve cultural competency of nurse officers, It is necessary to develop the multicultural education program includes compassionate competence and professional self-concept.

Purpose : This study is aimed at evaluating the effect of inter senior-junior mentoring and the mentor education program on KAFNA Cadets` ability towards adjustment, stress, relationship and empathy. Methods : In this study, nonequivalent control group pre-post test design was used as a research method. A total of 125 cadets(senior 64/junior 61) were divided into 3 groups: an experimental group which was mentored through the education program, a comparison group that mentored themselves, and control group. Self reported survey data was collected at a baseline(pre-test) and following the program(post-test). Results : Mentoring was effective in increasing mentor`s adjustment, but not the mentee`s. The mentor education program was effective in increasing the satisfaction of mentoring and mentor`s adjustment and empathy abilities. However, there were no significant differences in dependent variables among the groups. Conclusion : The mentor education program positively influenced inter senior-junior mentoring satisfaction and mentors. In this respect, this program can contribute in enhancing a cadet`s ability to effectively mentor and nurse competency such as empathy.

Purpose : This study was conducted, on the basis of the theory of planned behavior, to analyze factors influencing on the safety behavior of workers in battleship. Methods : The participants of this study consisted of 130 workers in two battleships. Attitude of safety behavior, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, intention of safety behavior and safety behavior were used. Results : The highest mean score of safety behavior performance of a worker in battleship was 4.72±0.48 for `I know the location of the fire extinguisher and know how to use it.` and the lowest mean score was 4.37±0.98 for `I check out the safety information and work.`. Subjective norm(p=0.16) and perceived behavioral control(p<.001) explain 41.8% of the variance in intention of safety behavior. However, attitude of safety behavior didn`t influence safety behavioral intention. Safety behavioral intention(p=.006) and perceived behavioral control(p<.001) were factors influencing safety behavior, and these factors explain 57.4% of the variance in safety behavior. Conclusion : In order to improve safety behavior of workers in battleship, it is necessary to develop the safety accident prevention education program that can strengthen their subjective norm, intention of safety behavior and perceived behavioral control.
