청년 실업이 사회적 문제로 대두되면서 대학 졸업 후, 취업 여부가 대학의 역할을 재조명하고 있다. 이러한 대학 환경의 급격한 변화는 대학생들의 독서에 영향을 미칠 수밖에 없고 이에 관한 많은 연구가 필요하다. 그러나 대학생 독자의 특성과 요구에 관한 연구는 다른 독자층에 비해 매우 적게 이루어졌다. 본 연구는 선행연구와 함께 대학도서관의 다양한 통계치와 대학도서관의 다년간 대출 데이터 분석을 통해 대학생 독자들의 특성을 살펴보고 이를 바탕으로 대학생 독자를 위한 대학도서관의 새로운 독서 지원 서비스인 독서 프로파일링 서비스를 제안하였다.

As unemployment of university graduates has emerged as a social problem, the role of the university has been reaffirmed. The dramatic changes in the environment of the universities are bound to affect the reading rates of the university students and more studies regarding these subjects are needed. However, less research on the characteristics and reading needs of the university students was carried in comparison of the studies of other levels of students. This study examines the characteristics of university students by analyzing various statistical data of university libraries and 5 years library circulation data and suggests a new reading profiling service which is a proactive reading support service for university students as a personalized book curation.
