본 연구에서는 정신장애 영유아의 발달수준과 문제행동 및 사회성숙도의 관계를 확인하고, 인지 발달 및 동작발달수준이 문제행동에 미치는 영향에서 사회성숙도의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 이를 위해 서울에 소재하고 있는 소아정신과 병원 2곳과 재활의학센터 1곳에서 발달평가가 의뢰되어 정신장애 진단을 받은 영유아 중 한국 베일리 영유아 발달검사 II와 사회성숙도 검사(SMS) 및 유아행동평가척도 부모용 1.5-5의 검사가 모두 시행된 12개월에서 42개월의 영유아 354명의 자료가 분석에 사용되었다. 영유아의 발달수준과 문제행동의 관계에서 사회성숙도의 매개효과를 검증하기 위해 Baron과 Kenny(1986)가 제안한 매개효과 검증 절차를 사용하였으며 매개효과의 통계적 유의성을 검증하기 위해 Sobel Test를 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 정신장애 영유아의 인지발달수준 및 동작발달수준이 낮을수록 문제행동이 많이 나타났다. 둘째, 정신장애 영유아의 인지발달수준이 낮을수록 사회성숙도가 낮았고 동작발달수준 역시 낮을수록 사회성숙도가 낮았다. 셋째, 정신장애 영유아의 사회성숙도가 낮을수록 문제행동이 많이 나타났다. 넷째, 정신장애 영유아의 인지발달수준과 문제행동의 관계에서 사회성숙도는 완전매개효과를 가졌으며, 동작발달수준과 문제행동의 관계에서 또한 사회성숙도는 완전매개효과를 나타내어 사회성숙도가 문제행동에 원인으로 관여하는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 인지발달 또는 동작발달이 문제행동으로 이어질 때 사회성숙도의 영향이 크다는 것을 검증했다는 데 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this study was to verify the mediating effects of social maturity in the relationship between developmental level and behavior problems in infants with psychological disabilities. The participants, who were referred to rehabilitation centers and psychiatry clinics, comprised 354 children(270 boys, 84 girls) of 1st to 5th grade. The Korean Bayley Scales of Infant Development Second Edition(K-BSID-II), Social Maturity Scales (SMS) and Child Behavior Checklist 1.5-5(CBCL 1.5-5) were used as the measuring tools. The result were as follows: First, the lower infants, who suffered from psychological disabilities, and had lower mental and psychomotor developmental levels, were found to have more behavior problems. Second, the lower infants, who suffered from psychological disabilities, and had lower mental and psychomotor developmental levels, were also found to have lower levels of social maturity. Third, the lower infants, who suffered from psychological disabilities, but who possessed social maturity, had more behavior problems. Fourth, social maturity was shown to have complete mediating effects in the relationships between developmental levels and behavior problems in infants with mental disorders. This study verified the mediating effects of social maturity in the relationships between mental and psychomotor development levels and behavior problems in infants with mental disorders.
