This study is to identify the relationships among the perceived satisfaction of pre-departure learning, adaptation to the host country, and the level of leader-member exchange. A total of 637 participants who were working globally after supporting global internship program by Korean government were subjected to this study, 261 available questionnaires were gathered, and only 111 of whom had joined four types of training programs including job-related training, host country language, English language, and cross-cultural training were used to final statistics analysis in order to ensure reliability and validity. The results of hierarchical regression analysis showed that the perceived learning satisfaction of pre-departure learning was positively related to adaptation for global internship participants to the host countries. In particular, English language training and host country language training both had positive effects on local adaptation, while job-related training and cross-cultural training had not related to adaptation to the host country. The results were not matched with precedent studies which were examined the relationship between pre-departure cross-cultural learning and adaptation of expatriates of multinational corporations. The reason is that expatriates are having clear assignments from corporations before leaving the host country, while participants who are joined global internship program were having a role of complementary assignment rather than key tasks. Furthermore, the perceived LMX between supervisor and internship participant had a positive effect on the adaptation to the host country. This study also found the moderating effects of LMX with the perceived satisfaction of pre-departure learning and adaptation The results of this study have expanded a field of global human resource research by identifying the effectiveness of the pre-departure learning being aimed at the global internship participants, not to the expatriates. We also discussed limitations and further research directions.

The demand for potato in potato snack industry has been gradually increased, but the supply of potato has hardly met such growing demand because of a limited domestic capacity of potato farming. Usually, domestic sourcing is used between June and November, and foreign sourcing from the United States or Australia is used in other periods. A foreign order should be placed prior to 1 year in order to purchase at a low price. However, it is hard to forecast domestic demand and domestic production. Hence, under such uncertainties of domestic demand and production, finding the optimal pre-order quantity is a very important issue in potato snack industry and the productivity of the company is seriously affected by its decision. This research defines the dual sourcing problem in potato snack industry and applies a stochastic programming approach to obtain an optimal pre-order quantity. We analyze five real-world cases according to the amount of domestic demand and supply. We compare the solution of the stochastic programming approach with the expected value solution. In all cases, the stochastic programming solution achieves 2% ~ 4% cost saving than the expected value solution. Its saving corresponds to about one million dollars. Furthermore, in the sensitivity analysis, we examine the change of optimal pre-order quantity and total cost when the late-order quantity increases. The result shows that as the late-order quantity increases, the optimal pre-order quantity should be increased. The contribution of this research is two fold. First, this is the first research to define the dual sourcing problem in potato snack industry using management science. In this research, it is expected to be useful for making decisions on sourcing in agricultural industry. Second, we apply the stochastic programming approach to solve this and our approach can contribute about 3% of cost saving. Although agricultural producers generally have a low operating margin, reduction of costs for raw materials will help to improve total productivity.

In this study, a perishable inventory allocation model under single-period and two-period settings is considered. The studied model for perishable inventory allocation is a kind of yield management model for firm`s productivity improvement. Yield management is a method for managing capacity or inventory profitably, which was originated from the deregulation of the US airline industry. In the airline industry, seat inventory allocation problem was mostly studied. In this research, we extend the seat inventory problem to a general perishable inventory allocation problem including customer movement. Specifically, we develop a two-price class inventory allocation problem considering customer movement, where the products are sold to different demand classes at different prices. Initially, the number of perishable products is fixed, and the number of sellable products is random at the beginning of next period. For a given number of products at the beginning, the objective is to decide the optimal number of products to assign different classes of customers in period 1 for maximizing the total expected profits. The customer demands are stochastic and independent initially, but dependencies are created by the return of a fraction of customers who could not buy a low-price product in each period. We develop a one-period model and a two-period optimization analytical model with marginal analysis. For the two-period model, we also consider customer movement from period 1 to period 2, where a portion of the customers who could not buy a low-price product in period 1 may wait for reopening of the same low-price item in period 2. The main objective of this study is to develop analytical models to obtain the optimal inventory allocation to support decision-makers in these environments. Though there are many analytical optimization models, it is very difficult to obtain the optimal solution within a reasonable time and effort for practical computation. We also develop a more efficient computer algorithm using marginal analysis techniques. Therefore, we use a marginal analysis in this study. We finally show computational experiments for illustrating the algorithm.

In this study, a fuzzy inference method is applied to improve the result of accident risk when an uncertainty is involved in data. In Korea, ports are taking care of 99% of the total volume of international trade, where accidents related to cargoes loading/unloading activities happen. Though the accident rate is lower than other logistics industries, the consequence of any accident and its negative after effect often cause severe results in trade transactions at the national level. The risk analysis is a method used in many fields to calculate the level of risk using accident probability(frequency) and corresponding consequence(damage) when an accident occurs. And the fuzzy inference technique is normally used to inference the result when given data are not enough to employ for the analysis. Since the accident data for port related activities do not occur frequently, there exists uncertainty in the resulting risk level. Therefore, we combine a risk analysis technique, i.e. risk matrix with fuzzy inference to calculate the risk level of port accident using real accident data over the 5 year period(2009-2013). The results are following: for accident types, External Truck Damage(ETD), Container & Cargo Damage for Quay operation(CCDQ), Yard Equipment Damage(YED) are the riskiest accidents and main causes of accidents are mishandling of equipment, equipment malfunction, and collision between spreader and container. We calculated the accident risk levels of each risk factor based upon which more practical accident mitigation measures could be applied to reduce the overall risk level. Since most of the accidents results from diverse human factors, future research should be focused on the detailed classification and analysis of them. The primary purpose of risk analysis is to find the potential risky factors, calculate the risk, and establish proper risk reduction plans and implementation of them, industry-specific risk assessment techniques should be developed in more proper way. Also, for each risk mitigation measure, a necessary way to judge the effect of it, i.e., a cost-benefit analysis should be implemented in decision-making process.

China has opened its financial market in 1990s. Since then banks have faced increasingly fierce competition. Banks of China have faced complex operational risks and suffered huge losses. Many studies have tried to solve out the causes of these embedded risks. However most previous studies have examined market risks, credit risks, and the types of liquidity. Most of them have focused on the management of banking risks. By combining with the regulation status of the operational risks of China`s commercial banks, we first analyze various methods mentioned in the prior studies. Additionally, we analyzed the operational risks, per se, of commercial banks of China. We find the relatively feasible way to prevent the operational risks. By making contrasts with alternative models of operational risks, we choose the basic indicator approach and the income-based models to test operational risks of commercial banks of China. For five commercial banks of China, income-based model appears to be able to cut the costs of operational risks. In terms of controlling the costs of operational risks, it is the income-based model that seems to outperform than the alternative. Also another aspect to be considered is Chinese commercial banks` capabilities of controlling operational risks. Our regression analyses provides that income based model is at least the best alternative for measuring operational risk in state. Further, the income-based model has its significance in the aspect that the operational risks have greater impact on net income of commercial banks than those of joint-stock banks of China.

5The Effects of Donation through Corporate Foundations on Consumers

Even with the importance of corporate foundations in corporate social responsibility (CSR hereafter) activities, little research has been conducted in this area. Most of the existing literature on corporate foundations deals with two issues: the reasons that firms set up foundations and activities of the foundations. These studies mainly focus on firms` perspective and investigate the reason why firms set up foundations and what activities these firms do. Most related studies to the present article are CSR governance. Still, these studies do not involve consumers. However, the donation through the corporate foundation is growing fast among activities done by foundations. A Strategic decision on donation should involve consumers. The corporate donation is strongly related to corporate or brand attitude consumers hold. Therefore, it is important to understand how consumers perceive donation through foundation compared to direct donation. In this sense, the present study investigates how consumers perceive foundations. First, an investigation was performed to determine whether donation through foundations influences consumers` attitude toward the founding firm. Next, the donation through foundations and direct donation were compared on two important variables, consumers` attribution of the firm`s motive for CSR and attitude toward the firm. An experiment using scenarios was used to test the hypotheses. To create scenarios, the firm and foundation were selected first. A real company was used because the attitude change (post-attitude - pre-attitude) was used as a dependent variable. Three criteria were used to select and KT & G and KT & G Social Welfare Foundation were used in the scenario. Student sample was used and total 311 responses were used for the analysis. The result revealed that donation through foundations influences consumer attitude toward the firm positively and that it is more influential in bringing positive attribution. Meanwhile, the direct donation is more effective in improving attitude toward the firm. the results have both theoretical and practical implications. Theoretically, this study is most meaningful in that it supported the importance of corporate foundations empirically. Practically, the result of the study gives implications to firms that strategic decision should be made according to the purpose of the donation. Also, the result can be utilized meaningfully for the firm with bad reputations.

This study investigates the effect of gender diversity on decision-making effectiveness and the moderating role of shared mental model through multi-level analysis. In recent years, many organizations tend to be more diverse in terms of age, tenure, nationality, educational background, functional background, and so forth. Especially the increase in gender diversity in Korean workforce has indeed become the inevitable reality. However, many diversity researchers have analyzed the effect of gender diversity on a team characteristics at the group level and have tried to find mediating and moderating variables in order to verify contrasting results. This research adopts relational demography perspective and focuses on how differences between team members` gender affect outcomes. In this vein, this study examines how gender diversity at individual level affects decision-making effectiveness and also proposes the moderation effect of gender diversity convergence mechanism on decision-making effectiveness, which is mobilized by shared mental model. The shared mental model may enhance team members` coordination and effectiveness in performing tasks that are complex and unpredictable and also make team members to share team`s objective which helps solving various kinds of problem. Team members who share similar task knowledge and teamwork can anticipate each other`s responses and coordinate effectively which means shared mental model may play the convergence mechanism enough to override the negative effect of gender diversity. The data was collected from semiconductor manufacturer, bank, and public enterprise and 346 questionnaires and 84 teams were finally used for the data analysis of the hierarchical linear model. Consistent with the predictions, the result indicates that gender diversity has a negative effect on decision -making effectiveness. However, team`s shared mental model at group level plays a critical moderating role to mitigate the negative effect of gender diversity. In conclusion, we need to understand and clarify various convergent mechanism which can mitigate the negative effect of diversity. Even though diversity might have positive potential in a long-term, it would not be easy to utilize diversity effectively in the workplace until we can address the mechanism of it correctly. I also discuss the theoretical and managerial implication of findings in details.

According to the recent changes in the management environment, leaders are asked to have an ability to draw potential of employees. Coaching, as one of the strategies of human resources development, is drawing to people`s attention. The purpose of the study is to analyze the mechanism of leader`s coaching behavior which influences the attitude and behavior of employees. We tested serious hypotheses which propose the relationships among leader`s coaching behavior, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, turnover, and emotional intelligence. Specifically, job satisfaction is considered as a mediator between leader`s coaching behavior and employee`s attitudes(organizational commitment and turnover intention). As for a moderating effect, we determined emotional intelligence which draws attentions in the recent organizational behavior studies. We collected and analyzed the data from 285 employees of both public and private sector in Korea. SPSS 20 was applied for the analysis. The research findings are as follows: First, we found that leader`s coaching behavior was positively associated with organizational commitment, but negatively associated with turnover intention. Second, our empirical data showed that job satisfaction was mediating the relationship between leader`s coaching behavior and organizational commitment, between leader`s coaching behavior and turnover intention. Third, emotional intelligence moderated the relationship between leader`s coaching behavior and turnover intention negatively. Based on the research findings, this paper makes theoretical and practical contributions: theoretically, it contributes to deepening our understanding of leader`s coaching behavior by suggesting a theoretical model regarding leader`s coaching behavior, job satisfaction, employee`s attitude and emotional intelligence. We found the mechanism of leader`s coaching behavior which influences employee`s attitude and behavior. Practically, this study suggested that it is necessary to concentrate on leader`s coaching in the operational level considering the influence of leader`s coaching behavior on employees. It is also important to take care of employee`s emotional intelligence. Future research is necessary to explore various factors which can influence the effectiveness of coaching such as the context of coaching, relationship with coaching customers, coach`s competency, etc. Some limitations of the study and future research directions were also discussed.

This study investigates the mechanism through which transformational leadership affects the job crafting behavior of employees from the perspective of organizational identification (personal and social identification) by analyzing the relationships among transformational leadership, organizational identification, and employee`s job crafting. It also examines if organizational justice (procedural and interactional justice excluding distributive justice) acts as a moderator for transformational leadership. For analysis, a survey was conducted on 360 employees of diverse business areas to gain 277 valid responses. To improve the objectivity of the survey, job crafting, the dependent variable, was surveyed by coworkers of the respondents. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS/WIN 22.0 and AMOS 22.0 statistics packages. The results showed that, first, there is a positive relationship between transformational leadership and organizational identification; second, that transformational leadership had a positive effect on job crafting; third, that organizational identification was a partial mediator when transformational leadership affected the job crafting behavior of employees; fourth, that organizational justice (procedural and interactional justice excluding distributive justice) moderated the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational identification. These results demonstratively show that transformational leadership positively affects job-crafting behavior among employees and that the degree in which employees identify with the organization becomes more important in the relationship between transformational leadership and job-crafting behavior when they have a greater sense of organizational justice. The study further discusses the limitations of the present research and proposes future research directions.

Due to the recent widespread of mobile devices including smartphones, SNS provided by IT giants like Google and Facebook are solidifying their positions as social platform services which have a substantial influence on the consumption patterns and buying behaviors of consumers. As a fundamental inspection for the enhancement of consumer-orientation in the digital consumer market is required, this study investigates further into the importance of evaluating consumer-orientation of the service provided in the Korean market by IT companies such as Google, Facebook, Naver, and Kakao with objectives for the global market. We also investigate the issues and cases of consumer rights that should be secured by the social platform products that meet the consumers` convenience and welfare according to the public data analysis of domestic consumer issues. We have identified and suggested the best practices for enhancing customer orientation, and presented the issues and the approach framework for enhancing consumer orientation in the market. First, we analyzed the public data which is collected by 1372consumer call center of Korea Consumer Agency and categorized the domestic consumer issues and cases. As a result, the characteristics of the domestic consumer issues and cases can be summarized as issues related to marketing and advertising practices and information sharing and privacy issues in the social platform service use situation. Second, we explore how companies address their consumer problems in providing SNS free of charge. In doing so, it is expected to find ways to improve consumer-orientation across the country`s social platform service market. By analyzing the consumer policies of Google, Facebook, Naver, and Kakao, we have identified and suggested the best practices for enhancing customer orientation. Global IT companies are commonly referred to as collecting information and linking information in order to achieve policy and service improvement from a consumer-orientation, such as terms of services provided to consumers. However, from consumer perspectives, it is still seemed to be vulnerable to unintentional information leaks, exposure to commercial transactions, and linkages to consumer fraud. According to the study, it is necessary to provide more accessible information regarding channels which can deal with consumer problems. Furthermore, the government, business operators, and all concerned parties should participate in the process of devising countermeasures. Notably, a need arises to continue to monitor consumer problems coming from the creation of connected value between SNS and e-commerce such as conversion from free to paid service and social log-in. Furthermore, monitoring should be done to ferret out PPL advertisement directed toward children or excessive suggestion of relevant service from the perspective of unfair charging, excessive marketing activities, and false and misleading advertisement. And consumer information standard should be established to strengthen the digital capacity of consumers.
