This paper is an attempt to study the process and progress of development, and the causes of stagnation, of women’s participation in various fields of the society through women’s organizations in South Korea through a historical perspective. One of the objectives of the paper is to analyze the role played by women’s organizations in enhancing the social status of South Korean women in society since the colonial period. The paper suggests some viable methods and approaches to increase the social and political participation of South Korean women, and proposes some ways to create a general feminist consciousness among them to motivate them to fight for their own causes through woman-based organizations.
