이 연구에서는 초등학교 6학년을 대상으로 학업성취도 평가와 빈칸 메우기 평가의 상관관계를 알아보았다. 연구 문제로 ‘(1) 학업성취도 평가와 빈칸 메우기 평가의 상관관계는 어떻게 되는가?, (2) 성별에 따른 학업성취도 평가와 빈칸 메우기 평가의 상관관계는 어떻게 되는가?’를 설정하였다. 서울 시내 7개 학교 6학년 285명을 대상으로, 2013년 10월 1일부터 12월 30일까지 연구가 이루어졌고, i-STATistics v.2.01을 사용하여 상관관계 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 학업성취도 평가와 빈칸 메우기 평가 간의 상관계수는 전체 학생의 경우에는 .682, 성별에 따라 남학생의 경우에는 .620, 여학생의 경우에는 .752로, 변수인 학업성취도 평가와 빈칸 메우기 평가 사이의 관계가 매우 깊다. 두 평가 도구 사이의 상관계수가 높아 상관관계가 매우 깊다는 것은 학교에서 학업성취도 평가를 대체하는 통합적 평가 방법으로 빈칸 메우기 평가를 적극 활용할 수 있다는 함의를 지닌다.

The purpose of this study was to determine correlations between achievement assessment and cloze test on sixth-graders. For this purpose, the following questions were set: (1) How is achievement assessment correlated with cloze test?; (2) How is achievement assessment correlated with cloze test by gender? The research was conducted in 285 sixth-graders at seven schools in Seoul from October 1 to December 30, 2013 and the correlation analysis was carried out using i-STATistics v.2.01. There was very strong correlations between achievement assessment and cloze test: the correlation coefficient between achievement assessment and cloze test was .682 for all the students, .620 for the boys, and .752 for the girls. Very strong correlation between the two instruments based on high correlation coefficients implies the possibility of using cloze test positively as integrative assessment to substitute for achievement assessment at schools.
