본 연구는 한국 상차림의 식기에 대한 연구를 위한 선행연구로서 우리나라의 한식문화(韓食文化)가치 및 인식을 확산시키고 제도적 기반을 마련하여 전통문화의 대중화 및 세계화에 이르는 연구의 필요성에 의한 것이다. 이 가운데 현대적 한국 상차림에대한 식기의 기능성과 상징성의 활용기준이 모호함으로써 그 정체성과 활용성에 대한 연구에 주목하게 되었다. 이러한 배경에 의해 한국 상차림을 위한 식기의 현대적 디자인을 위한 기준 발굴을 위한 탐구가 필요하였으며, 이를 위해 과거의 상차림에 사용되었던 식기 형태와 문화적 맥락을 통한 기능성과 상징성에 대한 연구로 연계되어야 할 필요성이 있다고 보고 현대 한국전통 상차림에 대한 식기 유형을 한국의 화려한 문화를 꽃피웠던 삼국시대와 도자예술의 절정기였던 고려시대, 도자의 완성도를 보여준 조선시대 식기를 대상으로 연구하였다. 두 번째 추후 연구로 연구자가 주목하게 된 현대적 한국 상차림에 대한 식기의 기능성과 상징성의 활용기준을 도출하기 위해 근거이론방법을 분석 적용하여 시대별 식기의 형태소를 추출하고, 행동장면분석을 통해 기능성·상징성의 의미소를 추출하여 근거이론방법을 분석 적용할 것이며, 활용사례에 따른 형태소와 의미소의 기준을 제시하려고 한다. 본 연구는 형태소와 의미소를 추출하여 사례에 맞는 식기의 형태와 상차림에 대한 활용 기준을 제안하려고 하기위한 선행연구다. 따라서 본 연구로 한국 상차림의 구성 요소로서 적절한 식기란 어떤 것이어야 하는가에 대한 탐구를 시도하였고,연구의 필요성과 목적에 따라 상차림에 대한 한 요소로써 식기에 대한 연구 범위를 보다 전통적인 한국 식기연구를 위해 삼국(고구려, 백제, 신라)과 고려, 조선 시대로 하여 연구하였다.

This study is a preliminary study for a study on Korean tableware and was conceived by the need to raise awareness of the value of traditional Korean cuisine and prepare policy frameworks to promote and globalize traditional culture. As the functional and symbolic aspects of contemporary Korean tableware have vague standards, the researcher came to focus on the identity and applicability of Korean tableware. There was a need to develop a standard for the contemporary design of tableware fit for a Korean table setting, as well as a need to study the functional and symbolic aspects of tableware used in the past within the cultural context. The types of tableware used in traditional Korean table setting are reviewed in light of the tableware during the Silla, Baekje and Goguryeo dynasties, the Goryeo dynasty when ceramics-related technology was at its peak and the Joseon dynasty when Korean ceramics added a new level of sophistication. In addition, in order to conduct the follow-up study that would focus on concluding the application standards of the functional and symbolic aspects of tableware in Korean table settings, a grounded theory methodology was used to extract the basic units of tableware for each period. By analyzing behavioral settings, the meaning of the functionality and symbolism will be extracted to be further analyzed using the grounded theory methodology. In the end the standard reference for the meaning and form for each case of application will be presented. This study is a preliminary study to propose a standard for application of table setting and forms of tableware that fit each case, by extracting the form and meaning elements. Therefore, research was conducted on how appropriate tableware for each scenario is composed as part of the Korean table setting. According to the need and purpose of the study, the extent of the study included the eras of Guguryeo, Baekje, Silla, Goryeo and Joseon dynasties for a more traditional approach to a study of Korean tableware.
