This study is about educating people to understand mutual cultures with respect to the seasonal customs from three countries, and seeks to propose a method of cross-cultural education through the analysis of the three national holidays: Lunar New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Dano festival. The reason for selecting China and Vietnam lies in the fact that the most number of people who get married with Koreans come from them. In the second chapter, the contention is made for the necessity of the education of cross-cultural understanding and the importance of practical use of seasonal customs. The third chapter examines Lunar New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Dano festival of three countries respectively. In the fourth chapter, the three national holidays are analyzed and their characteristics are investigated under categories: aspect of seasonal customs, rituals, meaning, food, game, custom, etc. The fifth chapter discusses educational factors of cross-cultural understanding in multicultural families and seeks to propose a educational method using the seasonal customs. The importance of this study lies in the fact that we have to broaden the scope of cross-cultural understanding through acknowledgement and respect for the difference and diversity in multicultural families, and think of them as one. Some limitations apply to this study in the sense that the study does not meet the demand of exquisite research in folklore area. However, the significance of this study lies in the fact that it can be utilized as educational material for the purpose of the safe settlement of multicultural families and ensuring the authenticity of social integration.

With the establishment of a neo-liberalist market order after the foreign currency crisis in the 1990's, urban poverty has shown aspects radically different from those of the past. While old poverty was based on material deficiency due to impossibility of economic engagement, new poverty has an inseparable relation with the proliferation of the 'working poor'who cannot escape from situations of poverty though engaging in economic activities. Also, new poverty is close to relative poverty in which one feels deprivation due to the deepening of the rich-poor gap, and a function of social inequality consisting of economic deprivation, social exclusion, cultural alienation etc. Today, the phenomenon of 'jobless growth' gets more prominent though macroeconomic indicators including economic growth rates and investments show recovery trend. In particular, the phenomena of employment crises are serious due to high unemployment rates in young generations and increase of long-term jobless persons. The seriousness of the issue lies in the fact that the young unemployed cannot help leading a life as an alienated class in this society losing stable jobs and hopeful future. Kim Ae-ran's collection of novels, My Mouth Waters(2007) very intensely shows those problems with our society. This paper tries to discuss her My Mouth Waters as a collection of literary narratives on 'new poverty.' The subjects of analysis in this paper include Arrogant Life, My Mouth Waters, Passing the Meridian, Christmas Specials, and Prayer out of the 8 novels contained in the collection. The discussion in this paper is carried out at the three levels, poverty of working, poverty of housing, and poverty of hope, main characteristics of new poverty. In terms of this, this paper sheds light on the fact that problems of poverty, alienated labor, and social exclusion due to them, which are depicted in Kim Ae-ran's novels, are naturally associated with the aspects of new poverty in our society.

Chae Man-shik and Lu Xun were both widely renowned satirists in Korea and China during the mid-modern and early contemporary periods, when both Korea and China were transitioning from premodern kingdoms to modern states, largely due to the influx of Western ideas. Both writers employed satire as a metaphorical weapon, underlining the absurdity of the societies created in both countries due to continued Japanese interference and also the utter foolishness and fatuousness of the peoples of these societies. They furthermore lamented the fact that they, despite being members of the elite, were powerless to alter the absurdity of the reality they so poignantly described. The process that led to the formation of their views regarding satire can largely be ascribed to their upbringing in their native countries and also the Western ideas they were exposed to. This paper investigates and explains the unique features of their views of satire in their literary works, mainly by analyzing their personalities and their societal backgrounds. A sample of eight novels were selected for detailed analysis, namely Chae Man Shik's A Ready-Made Life, Tomorrow, My Innocent Uncle, and A Little Madness, and LuXun's A Happy Family, In the Drinking House, The Misanthrope, and Sadness. By examining the manner in which satire is expressed in the aforementioned novels, certain conclusions regarding the similarities and differences between novels written by the elite, as represented by Chae Man-sik and Lu Xun, can be made. In analyzing the contents of the aforementioned novels, the types of satire analyzed were divided into two categories, namely the satire of the elite and the satire of society and the others. Similarly, in analyzing the techniques used in satires, two categories were employed, namely use of irony and tone. Through this analytical process, certain conclusions were made regarding the satire of Chae Man-shik and Lu Xun, and also the consciousness with which they faced reality.

Hybrid genre such as faction novel and fusion historical drama has become more and more popular since 2000 in Korea. Historical fiction concentrated more on imagination and popularity rather than historical sources and research. The Moon embracing the Sun by Jeong Enguel reconstructs history with writer's imagination. In this novel, the writer creates narrative with fictional characters in spite of the Joseon Dynasty period. But what made it even more interesting is that there is structural similarity between the narrative and ideology of neoliberalism which is ideological form of contemporary Korea. First of all, the novel's main characters who are Her Yeunwoo and Lee Hwen are aimed at winning love and political victory. In this process, their antagonists met their death. Her Yeunwoo became queen and Lee Hwen founded ideal nation after winning war against the opposite party. These values such as 'competition' and 'success' is important ideology which neoliberalism places emphasis on. According to neoliberalism, individual can win social status and wealth only after he has to survive limitless competition. People identify themselves with the novel``s main characters and dream of achieving success like Her Yeonwoo and becoming heroic leader like Lee Hwen. But it were Her Yeonwoo and Lee Hwen that were a successful competitors to gain ideal world. They are ruling class with capital who reign over the socially weak class in neoliberalism system. There are few or none in subjected class who can win success in this system. This shows that the impassable rapture between classes is the essence of myth of success that neoliberalism emphasizes. In other words, there is a structural homology between the narrative in The Moon embracing the Sun and neo-liberalistic capitalism system. In superficial narrative, this novel emphasizes human values transcending social positions with love story of king and female shaman. But it's structure is quite similar to myth of success of the neoliberal competition system. It can be inferred that The Moon embracing the Sun gains literature achievement as historic fiction.

The Red Tent was written based on the book of Genesis, focusing on Jocob's only daughter, Dinah, and his four wives. In the Bible, the stories of women were suppressed and the women's voices were almost unheard except the time of childbirth. The author, Anita Diamant, wanted to revive the women's voices and represent their hidden stories in Dinah``s voice. This paper aims to review the novel comparing it to Genesis. Firstly, I will reread Jacob's marriage and childbirth in Genesis from the view of feminism. Then, I will listen to Dinah``s voice telling her mothers' stories in the novel. The author changed Lear's and Rachel's maids into their step-sisters, and she made Rachel and Dinah as excellent midwives. I will explore how and why the author changed or created the stories of women of Genesis. I will also focus on the sisterhood of women in "the red tent", and on the women's role and its uniqueness in the house. I believe that this feminist reading and writing will give the more insights into the history of the patriarchs of the Israelite people and the God``s promise in Genesis. In conclusion, the author tried to show that the God``s promise to Jacob was realized through women, Dinah``s four mothers, as well.

In the science fiction novel titled The planet of the apes (1963), PierreBoulle tells a story about a completely reversed world where the apes dominate the humans. Coming from the normal world that is ours, a small group of people is totally embarrassed and confused by observing this strange world. On the planet of the apes that they have discovered, it is the apes that are more intelligent then the humans. On the earth, it was the other way around. That observation results in their perplexity which is, in our view, of the essentially ethnologicalorder. The two communities, human and simian, bear with one another the relationship that corresponds to what Lotman calls 'enantiomorphic pairings.' In this context, a series of questions deserve to be raised: Is a 'common language' possible? If the answer is yes, how can it be created? What are those things that people can share in that situation? In rereading The planet of the apes from a culturological point of view, we would like to formulate a response to those questions.

La traduction de la tragedie chinoise L'Orphelin de la Maison de Tchao de Joseph Henri de Premare a inspire plusieurs adaptations a differents ecrivains. En France, cette ceuvre presentait la particularite d``etre la premiere a traiter d``un theme extreme-oriental. Des differents textes auxquels elle a donne lieu, le plus remarquable, intitule L'Orphelin de la Chine (1755), est du a Voltaire. L``auteur voyait dans cette tragedie une excellente illustration du genie et de la rationalite qui conferaient aux Chinois une superiorite naturelle sur les Tartares a la force aveugle et brutale. Il a repris tres librement le texte d'origine en le situant a l``epoque glorieuse de Gengis Khan pour realiser une peinture des mceurs tartares et chinoises. Aux yeux de Voltaire, les recits les plus passionnants sont depourvus d``interet s``ils ne s``accompagnent pas de telles descriptions, dans lesquelles reside la plus grande difficulte de l'art, mais qui ne sont que vain divertissement si elles n``incitent pas a la vertu. Celle-ci est accessible aux “paiens” eux-memes, comme il le montre dans L'Orphelin de la Chine et provient ici des enseignements de Confucius, d``ou la formule “morale de Confucius en cinq actes” par laquelle l``auteur resume sa piece. Il faut rendre cette justice a Voltaire qu'il s'est efforce de voir plus loin que les problemes de sa societe pour aller a la rencontre de “l'autre”. En ce sens, nous pouvons estimer que cet ecrivain a entrouvert la possibilite d``un “orientalisme positif”.

Hatte Descartes die Sinnlichkeit aus der Philosophie ausgegrenzt, hatte Leibniz mit der Sinnlichkeit den Grenzbereich der Philosophie markiert und ihre Erkenntnisqualitaten zugesprochen, die aber nicht ausbaufahig seien, und hatte Baumgarten der Sinnlichkeit mit seiner asthetik einen festen Platz in der Philosophie gesichert, so geht Herder einen Schritt weiter. Herder ruckt die Sinnlichkeit von der Peripherie philosophischer Aufmerksamkeit in deren Zentrum. Grundlage der Herderschen Argumentation ist der Gedanke, daβ eingeschrankte Wesen die Inhalte ihres Vorstellens nicht durch oder aus sich selbst haben, sondern vermittelt durch den Korper. Die Kraft der Seele ist daher gebunden an die Krafte des Korpers, ihre Wirksamkeit ist essentiell ein Wirken auf die Korperkrafte und ein Bearbeiten dessen, was ihr der Korper zustromt. Mit dieser Aussage uber den Leib-Seele-Zusammenhang verbindet Herder den erkenntnistheoretischen Gedanken, daβ die endliche Seele die Dinge nicht in ihrem Grunde erkennt, d.h. daβ sie ihr Wesen nicht gemaβ ihrem Inneren erkennt, sondern ihre eigene Kraft ebenso wie die Krafte des Universums nur von ihren Wirkungen her bestimmen kann. Mit einem Leib verbunden zu sein und die Dinge nicht von innen her zu erkennen, sind also nur zwei Seiten derselben Sache, namlich Explikationen eines nicht produktiven Erkenntnisvermogens. Aus diesen Pramissen ergibt sich fur Herder, daβ sich endliche Seelen aus den Wirkungen, die sie an anderem hervorbringen, selbst erkennen. Die eingeschrankte menschliche Seele hat Empfindungen notig, die ihr das Weltall vorspiegeln. Die Empfindungen liefern der Seele rohe Materialien, die im Erkennen bearbeitet werden. Die menschliche Seele ist nicht nur uberhaupt auf das Gegebensein von Vorstellung angewiesen, sie ist uberdies abhangig davon, welche besonderen Empfindungen ihr durch die korperliche Konstitution und die Versetztheit in eine bestimmte raumliche und zeitliche Situation zuteil werden. Nach Herder kann es keine Vorstellung geben, die sich bloβ auf das Subjekt und gar nicht auf den Gegenstand bezieht, weil sich das Subjekt als eingeschranktes Wesen uberhaupt oder grundsatzlich nur im Spiegel von etwas, das es nicht ist, vorstellen kann. Das Originelle an Herders Ansatz besteht darin, Subjektvorstellung und Objektvorstellung als durcheinander vermittelt zu denken. Nach Herder lebt der Mensch immer in einer Welt, die er sich selbst gebildet hat und er erkennt sich selbst erst im Horizont dieser Welt. Damit entsteht innerhalb der Erkenntnislehre eine neue Ebene der Betrachtung: eine durch die Subjektivitat vermittelte Objektivitat und eine durch Objektivitat vermittelte Subjektivitat ist erst mit der an sich seienden gottlichen Welt ins Verhaltnis zu setzen.

La novela picaresca es un genero literario polifacetico que ha merecido mucho interes por parte de los estudiosos de la literatura espanola de los Siglos de Oro. La novela picaresca espanola rompio con la tradicion previa del idealismo con dos novedades mas fundamentales: el realismo y la narracion en primera persona. Con la publicacion de la vida de Lazarillo de Tormes y de sus fortunas y adversidades en 1554 se habia iniciado el genero picaresco. Sin embargo, la novela picaresca conlleva en si los germenes de su desintegracion por sus estrictos limites estructurales e incluso Lazarillo de Tormes no se influye en el genero picaresco segun los criticos. De este modo, resulta bastante dificil definir el genero y las obras que se incluyen en el genero picaresco y creo que esta dificultad se debe al realismo del genero. A la hora de definir las novelas picarescas, los criticos solo consideran el realismo y la narracion en primera persona. Sin embargo, si consideramos algunas obras como la Segunda Parte del Lazarillo de Tormes(1555) y Los Suenos de Quevedo(1605-1621), que son obras picarescas que tiene muchos elementos fantasticos con el uso de los suenos, podemos encontrar otra tradicion literaria, que es la tradicion de la satira menipea. En estas obras, los suenos se desempenan como un recurso estetico narrativo para reflejar las ideas de su epoca y satirizar la sociedad de su tiempo. Con el uso del sueno, diablo, infierno y los tipos en vez de los personajes, estas obras se basan en la raiz narrativa, retorica y carnavalesca de la satira menipea, que tambien es otra fuente literaria del genero picaresco. El realismo grotesco y la inversion de papeles sociales son presentados en estas obras como el modelo fundador del mundo al reves, enriqueciendo aun mas la tradicion realista del genero picaresco.

Los escritores de vanguardia exploraron un terreno muy propicio para renovar el modo de narrar hasta entonces. Las nuevas tendencias contribuyeron de forma relevante a la experimentacion formal del texto en detrimento del desarrollo de la historia. Entre ellos Antonio Espina considera el cine como el mejor mecanismo artistico de composicion autenticamente renovador que ningun otro arte y recurre a la tecnica cinematografica como modelo para construir su estetica novelesca de vanguardia. Como se manifiesta en Luna de copas(1929), Antonio Espina declara su interes en el cine. La tecnica cinematografica en que se apoya el autor alli responde a la subversion de la estetica del mimetismo realista, es decir, elimina la trama como elemento clasico que sustituye por las imagenes del cine. Los personajes, por su parte, que son expuestos como entes de ficcion, no cobran vida y dejan su psicologia verista. Esa centralidad de la imagen produce una mayor conciencia de la naturaleza textual en su desarrollo, la presencia del obra artificial. Por lo tanto, la cinematografia es uno de los recursos mas esteticos de vanguardia sin pretensiones realistas y totalmente desvinculado de la realidad mimetica. A partir de este punto de vista, Antonio Espina traza en su obra cierto tipo de escritura cinematografica aplicada a la construccion de lo que no son sino bocetos de posibles novelas nuevas, es decir, vanguardistas.
