본고는 조선선(朝鮮禪)이 16-17세기 서산의 문도와 부휴의 문도들에 의하여 확립되었으며 그 결과 태고법통설이 정착되었다는 선행연구를 토대로 하여 출발한다. 그리고 이러한 조선선의 확립에 있어서 유불교섭(儒佛交涉)의 영향은 어떠했으며, 그 의의가 무엇인지를 밝히고자 하는 것이 목적이다. 그동안 조선불교의 연구자들은 억불숭유의 상황 속에서 불교계 내부 몇몇 인물 간의 사상적 계승을 통하여 조선선의 성격을 논하여 왔다. 그러나 이러한 연구는 동시대 조선 사상계의 흐름과 동아시아사상사의 변화에 대한 유기적 관련성을 도외시 해왔다는 비판에 직면에 있다. 따라서 조선불교에 대한 연구 역시 당시 대표적인 사상인 유가와의 관련 및 동아시아 사상사의 흐름 속에서 연구되어져야 한다. 본고의 문제의식은 여기에서 출발하였다. 본고에서는 ``16-17세기 조선선의 확립에 미친 유불교섭의 영향과 그 의의``에 대하여 크게 네 가지 문제를 중심으로 다루고 있다. 첫째, 조선선의 확립에 대한 문제를 다루었다. 서산과 부휴의 선사상과 그의 문도들의 형성을 중심으로 하여 조선선의 확립과정과 그 특징을 살펴보았다. 둘째, 조선선의 확립에 미친 일반적인 영향과 그 중 유불교섭의 영향이 큰 이유를 고찰하였다. 특히 명·청 교체기라는 동아시아 사상계의 변화 속에서 조선 사상계에 유불교섭이 이루어지게 되는 이유를 정치 사회 변동 속에서 해석하였다. 셋째, 유불교섭의 구체적인 내용을 밝히고자 하였다. 특히 노수신과 부휴 및 사명과의 교류 등의 몇 가지 대표적인 사례를 중심으로 하여 이 당시 유가와 불교의 교섭의 내용을 살펴보았다. 끝으로 조선선의 확립에 미친 유불교섭의 영향과 그 의의는 무엇이며, 그것이 현대인에게 주는 교훈이 무엇인지를 살펴보았다.

This paper is based on precedent researches that Choseon Seon had been established by disciples of the master Seosan and the master Buhyu in the 16th and 17th century and the theory of the master Taego`s religious tradition that had been fixed. This paper aims to show the influence and its meaning of negotiations between Confucianism and Buddhism affecting on the establishment of Choseon Seon in those days. The Buddhism in Choseon dynasty had continued through the succession of thought among some people in the world of Buddhism under the state of oppressing Buddhism and respecting Confucianism. Nowadays these researches are faced with criticism neglecting organic relation with changes of history in eastern Asia and current of contemporary thought in the world. So the researches about Choseon Seon of Buddhism have to be studied in the current of history in eastern Asia thought and relativity with Confucianism, the representative thought in those days. What I wish to show in this paper is to handle four problems as follows about he influence and its meaning of negotiations between Confucianism and Buddhism affecting on the establishment of Choseon Seon in the 16th and 17th century. First, I deal with the problem about establishment of Choseon Seon. I examined the process of establishment and characteristics of Choseon Seon centering the thought and disciples of the master Seosan and the master Buhyu. Second, I examined the reason of general influence of negotiations between Confucianism and Buddhism affecting on the establishment of Choseon Seon. Especially I explained the reasons of those negotiations under the change of the thought in eastern Asia during the times of replacement from Ming dynasty to Ching dynasty. Third, I studied on the contents of negotiations between Confucianism and Buddhism in those days centering some representative examples, the exchanges among a Confucianist Nosushin, a Buddhist Buhyu and a Buddhist Samyeong. Lastly, I considered the influence, its living lesson of negotiations between Confucianism and Buddhism affecting on the establishment of Choseon Seon in the 16th and 17th century.
