Shock-resistance test for a real equipment for a normal vessel is one of the difficult problem in many cases because of terrible cost and weight. An analysis technique to evaluate the shock resistance in a design stage is necessary, instead In this paper, the process to evaluate the shock resistance of a propulsion motor for naval vessels was presented based on German navy`s BV043 regulation. The shock signal to impose the equipment under the test was first evaluated, and was then applied to the structural FE model of the equipment. From the transient FEA, the time history of von-Mises stress was obtained by the mode superposition method. The shock resistance was evaluated using the peak value of the von-Mises stress.

A variety of materials may be used for soundproof panels. The major advantage of transparent materials over traditional materials in noise barriers is aesthetics. The transparent panel materials such as clear plastic or glass are an ideal way of reducing or virtually eliminating the visual impact of a noise barrier. With the use of transparent materials, the drivers` view of the roadside and the sunlight penetration to the highway would not be blocked. Korean Industrial Standards for soundproof panels have been established. But, transparent soundproof panels are not included in this standards. And, some specifications provide only a few basic characteristics for transparent soundproof panels. To develop guidelines on quality criteria for transparent soundproof panel, their mechanical properties such as wind load resistance, safety under impact, and abrasion resistance were experimentally investigated.

Human characteristic responding to idle vibration on passenger vehicle was studied to find if affected by seating posture of passenger. When twelve male subjects are exposed to moderate vertical vibration of 0.224 m/s2 r.m.s. at frequency range from 3 Hz to 40 Hz, it was found that seating posture significantly affects to biodynamical characteristics, apparent mass and apparent eccentric mass, at most range of idle vibration frequency(20~40 Hz). The supported thigh contact on rigid seat showed bigger values in the two biodynamical characteristics than the average thigh contact. The bigger apparent mass and apparent eccentric mass in the seating posture of the supported thigh contact can be assumed more strengthened muscle at the frequency range.

정밀 방진에서 전형적인 문제로 고하중으로 인한 저주파 공진 특성이 있다. 전자기 에어 스프징은 진동 제어 장치이자 능동형 방진 장치이다. 이 연구에서 전자기 에어 스프링은 반도체 생산을 위한 저주파 공진을 제거하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 능동형 방진 장치로 기계 및 전가 부분은 2.5톤의 하중에 작동되도록 설계하였다. 전자기 스프링은 탄성 공압 챔버 내에 공기압을 이용하여 띄우고, 전자기 된 시스템에 의하면 공진 주파수 영역에서 제어 시간 및 최고 피크가 상당히 줄어들었고, 그 결과 피동형 시스템 상의 고유 진동에 의해 발생되는 공진을 피할 수 있음을 보였다.

The indoor noise of the naval vessel is very important related to the optimum environmental conditions for crews as well as the ability of fighting power of antisubmarine. Especially, sonar equipment room is one of the rooms where require to be silent because the informations of the underwater noise are collected and analyzed in there. In this paper, the sound reduction of the TASS console, one of the main noise sources in a sonar equipment room for a typical naval vessel, is described. The noise source of this TASS console is the flowing noise of cooling fan. In order to reduce this kind of noise, the plenum chamber and acoustic elbow were developed. Related to the development of the plenum chamber, the area of the air-outlet and sound absorption of the inner lining were investigated experimentally with the evaluation system of the sound insertion loss. Acoustic elbow was also manufactured and evaluated with the evaluation system of the sound insertion loss. Finally, in order to evaluated the ability of noise reduction of the plenum chamber and acoustic elbow, the indoor noise of the sonar equipment was measured when they were appled to TASS console.

The wet brakes used in an industrial forklift often produce noise on braking. Elimination or reduction of this squeal noise is an important task for the improvement of comforts. In this paper, a test rig was developed which was possible for testing of brake noise and an experimental measurement on squeal noise was performed. The causes of the brake noise are identified by experimenting how the factors such as automatic transmission fluid, the groove of friction-plate pad and the material of friction-plate pad affect the squeal noise. In order to identify the squeal characteristics, the signal analyses for noise are performed by using frequency spectrums. Experimental results showed that the viscosity of automatic transmission fluid and the groove pattern of friction-plate pad largely affect the reduction of the wet brake squeal noise in an industrial forklift.

A circular plate is the main part of a circular saw blade, which is widely used in industrial cutting tools. In experiments using a circular saw containing slots, we observed that a number of natural frequencies are simultaneously emerged in specific frequency regions. The interesting phenomenon is called the frequency convergence. Effects of design parameters such as the number, the length and the width of slots, on the frequency-convergence phenomenon are analyzed by FEM simulations using ALGOR. The frequency-convergence phenomenon will be intensified when the number, length and width of slots increase.

This paper presents experimental performance evaluation of a magnetorheological(MR) damper for integrated isolation mount for ultra-precision manufacturing system. The vibration sources of the ultra- precision manufacturing system can be classified as follows: the one is the environmental vibration from the floor and the other is the transient vibration occurred from stage moving. The transient vibration occurred from the stage moving has serious adverse effect to the process because the vibration scale is quite larger than other vibrations. Therefore in this research, a semi-active MR damper, which can control the transient vibration, is adopted. Also the stage needs to be isolated from tiny vibrations from the floor. For this purpose, a dry-frictionless MR damper is required. In order to achieve this goal, a novel type of MR damper is originally designed and manufactured in this work. Subsequently, the damping force characteristics of MR damper are evaluated by simulation and experiment. In addition, the vibration control performance of the MR damper associated with the stage mass is evaluated.

Excessive torsional vibrations from marine engine shafting systems can be reduced by using torsional vibration dampers. But in order to be tuned effectively, the dampers should be designed through the optimum design procedure. In this paper, the procedure to get the optimum values of system parameters of spring-viscous dampers using effective modal mass of inertia and stiffness is suggested and the damping is determined by the exact algebra optimization method. The validity of the suggested method is confirmed through the application to a 1800 kW four cycle diesel engine and generator system.

Vibrations caused by automobile engine are absorbed mostly by a passive-type engine mount. However, user specifications for automobile vibrations require more stringent conditions and higher standard. Hence, active-type engine mount have been developed to cope with such specifications. The active-type engine mount consists of sensor, actuator and controller where a control algorithm is implemented. The performance of the active engine mount depends on the control algorithm if the sensor and actuator satisfies the specification. The control algorithm should be able to suppress persistent vibrations caused by the engine which are related to engine revolution. In this study, three control algorithms are considered for suppressing persistent vibrations, which are the positive position feedback control algorithm, the strain-rate feedback control algorithm, and the modified higher harmonic control algorithm. Experimental results show that all the control algorithms considered in this study are effective in suppressing resonant vibrations but the modified higher harmonic controller is the most effective controller for non-resonant vibrations.
