인간이라면 누구라도 死後의 安樂을 원하며 이를 가능케 해주는 것이 바로 종교의 역할이다. 특히 불교는 薦度儀式이라는 고유한 자비방편을 통해서 이미 幽明을 달리한 靈駕의 安樂도 가능하다는 것이 불교의 입장이다. 그리고 薦度儀式의 대표적인 것이 水陸齋이다. 수륙재는 一切孤魂이 윤회를 벗어나 成佛을 이루는 것을 목적으로 거행하는 대규모 천도의식이다. 그러나 일체고혼 수륙재를 통해 이르게 성불에 이르기 위해서는 반드시 전제되어야 할 것이 그들의 참석이다. 수륙재는 이에 대한 해결방안으로써 五路壇作法을 거행한다. 「오로단작법」의 소례는 오방오제로서 일체고혼을 위해 수륙도량으로 통하는 길을 열어 그들의 참석이 가능하도록 해준다. 따라서 수륙재가 원만히 거행되기 위해서 반드시 선행되어야만 하는 의식이다. 그러나 「오로단작법」은 이러한 위치에 있음에도 불구하고 수륙재를 연구함에 있어서 대부분 간과되어 왔다. 특히 의식을 거행하는 법규인 의식문 자체에 대한 연구는 이뤄지지 않았다. 본고에서는 이처럼 간과되고 있는 「오로단작법」의 절차 그리고 그 구성과 의미를 살피어 보다 원만한 수륙재 거행에 일조하고자 하였다.

Every human pursues a rest after his death. A religion is born to fulfill such demand by human. Expecially, Buddhism teaches that even a deceased soul can achieve a rest through its unique way of Cheondo-Protocol (薦度儀式, a ceremony to lead souls to a heavenly kingdom). And the representative Cheondo-Protocol is Suryukjae (水陸齋). Suryukjae is the large scale of Cheondo-Protocol that is held to attain Enlightenment (成佛, becoming a buddha) getting out of the transmigration (輪廻, Skt. Samsara). However, the first thing to be required is their participation. Orodan-jakbeop (「五路壇作法」 Five Paths Altar rules of behavior) has been suggested in the Suryukjae as for the resolution regarding such point. Orodan-jakbeop is a type of Obang-oje (五方五帝, Five emperors who guard five directions) that makes every lonely spirit to attend the protocol via opening a pathway to Suryuk-doryang (水陸道場, Place where a festival of water and land is held). Therefore this protocol has to be performed prior, in order to carry out the Suryukjae amicably. Especially, there are no feasible studies involved in performing regulations for this protocol. In this paper, It would like to contribute Suryukjae to be carried out more amicably by investigating on neglected Orodan-jakbeop of its procedures, formations and meanings.
