In a situation where competition becomes intense, health care organizations constantly strive to provide more services with given personnel and time. While not only the `quantity` of the services but also the `quality` becomes increasingly important, various problems that can occur during the `process` of service provision can be effectively managed by applying the methods of management science. In this study, we introduce the cases where the methods of management science can be applied for the management of health care organizations in Korea and abroad. There are many cases where various scenarios for improving the patients` accessibility to the services and for maximizing the efficient use of limited resources are established, and simulation or basic statistical analysis methods are used to solve the problems more systematically or to develop improvement plans. In this study, several exemplary cases, such as no-show of patients, crowding in the emergency room, prediction of the number of available beds in the intensive care units, nurse scheduling, delay of arrival of patients, and ordering of the proper amount of therapeutic materials, are introduced and discussed. From the perspective of administrators or clinicians, however, it may not be easy to master the methodology that requires considerable mathematical background or apply the theories to practice directly. Therefore, it is suggested that more practical and relatively simple analytical methods should be applied. Also, having a more positive attitude toward improving the current performance (e.g., a belief that `we can always be better than now`), and paying attention to improving the job satisfaction by addressing problems, with experimental spirit and data-driven decision management.

This study is to present current research state of the art in serviscape and performance in healthcare system. Previous studies related to serviscape in healthcare sector are explored with limitations. This study conducts a content analysis with literature reviews in order to synthesize previous studies into three branch constitution dimension of the serviscape presenting the service environment. This study provides a current research state of the art and a future direction in serviscape in healthcare sector. Study results provide serviscape, customer response, satisfaction, and behavior intention in terms of healthcare settings. The patients and hospital customers as well as hospital employees should share the service experiences of the good quality in a proper service environment so that the patients and customer can satisfy and revisit the hospital.

There are many policies around the world regarding Information Communication Technology (ICT). In 2012, the World Health Organization emphasized the strategic and integrated policy for the development and dissemination of ICT-based healthcare innovations at the national level. As technologies related to ICT are introduced in various countries around the world, each country announces policies and strategies to preoccupy these new industries. However, Korea is tied to various regulations in investment of ICT and thus lags behind other countries. Therefore, in this section, we review the present status and problems of ICT development in Korea and compare these with other major countries. Finally, we present the ICT development strategies and tasks in Korea.

This paper discusses the strategic concepts applied to integrated delivery system(IDS). IDS is rooted in vertical integration(VI) and strategic alliance(SA), but only few knows about the theoretical backbone of the IDS. The paper explains how VI and SA applies to IDS, then provides cases of IDS rooted in strategic concepts; Kaiser Permanante Model, Mayo Clinic Model, and ACO(Accountable Care Organizations). Finally the paper provides the implication of IDS on Korean healthcare delivery system.

The forms of healthcare service delivery emerges from the interaction between technological progress and institutional changes. Building a healthcare system which enables effective and efficient patient care is a imperative to a sustainable operation of a society. Identifying of a promising medical technologies and diffusing them consists of the basic tasks of a good healthcare system. Inducing of a promising innovation in healthcare and utilization of the innovation requires a deep understanding of healthcare innovation system and delicate governmental intervention to the effective functioning of the system. Therefore, the support for R&D in healthcare field should be given to social and institutional technologies for the better organization of healthcare delivery and consumption system as well as basic and applied medical sciences.

This research is for an innovative health information service cases based on Information Communication Technology (ICT), conducted at a general hospital in Korea. This study introduces a personal use self-diagnosis & self management device for pulmonary chronic disease patients, a mobile communication application service for doctor rounds, a surgical education system providing natural-user-interface with virtual reality for surgeons, and an Internet of things(IOT) technology using personal electrocardiogram (ECG) measurement device cases. Due to every case is on developing, there are still many issues needed to be improved. For this reason, various opinions with constructive critiques from the readers of this paper will be welcomed for better practical implementation.

This study is to introduce a comprehensive framework of a crisis management system developed at a prominent hospital in South Korea. Throughout recent decades, especially in the recent years, the way in which to cope with both internal and external challenges has been one of the most critical issues. Since the incident management system in the U.S. is acknowledged as the most advanced crisis management model in the world, a portion of this study refers to the Hospital Incident Command System(HICS) provided by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority(EMSA). Nevertheless, the framework suggested in this article was designed based on a distinctive Korean hospital setting. The main contents of this study are as follows; categorization of each type of crisis, organization of a crisis management team in a non-crisis or crisis state, crisis assessment by life cycle stage, and establishment of crisis management protocol. Even though many types of crises are unspecified, those can be categorized into external crisis, medical crisis, and utility & activity failure. A crisis management organization should be operated and consisted differently- depending on a crisis or non-crisis situation. From a life-cycle perspective, the range by which the crisis should be managed extends from pre-stage to post-stage of the crisis. It is important to set proper scenarios and manuals by crisis type to develop a crisis management framework of high quality. With continuous efforts, hospitals can prepare for the uncertainty to better concentrate on core business operations.
