Numerous landslides had occurred in Kangwondo in July 2006 and several restoration works had been done. A-day-accumulative rainfalls from July 12 to July 13 and July 15 to July 16 were 176㎜ and 202㎜ respectively. Disaster sites at which slope failures were studied to main causes of slope failures by investigating characteristics of rainfall, geological formation, topography and ground surface exploration around the boundary of landslides. In this study, a series of slope restoration work process is presented for reference which about the landsliding area in Han-Gye-Ryeong to O-Saek in Kwangwon-do where one of the most severe damaged area in 2006. The slope restoration work process includes site investigation, analysis on affected factor, restoration or reinforcing method design, construction procedure and recent status of that area. Also several considering points are suggested while design and construction for the reference at the other restoration works.

The Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge is the suspension bridge which connects Myodo and Gwangyang. It is over the main navigation channel of Gwangyang Harbor. South anchorage(AN1, Myodo side) of the bridge is designed as rock anchored type. It sustains using the resistance of the underground rock``s mass in Myodo. As this type of anchorage can minimize the exposure of the structure, It is economically efficient and environmentally friendly. North anchorage (AN2, Gwangyang side) is designed as the gravity type. This anchorage is 68 meters in diameter and use its own weight to support. Instead of normal rectangular diaphragm wall, the circular shape diaphragm wall is adopted to the north anchorage. It doesn``t need to use internal temporary facilities, so it can significantly improve the constructability of the structure.

To determine the effect of draining for the drainage layer in CFGD(Concrete Faced Gravel Dam) body, centrifuge model tests were performed. Also, soil compaction works are essential to construction of dams in order to avoid unexpected settlement of superstructures. Taking advantage of oscillating accelerometer, this research was made to complement existing methods for assessment of soil stiffness. In order to examine the validity of compaction-degree suggested in the study, tests on vibration characteristics using accelerometers was also performed.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce case studies on 2 projects for the construction of port facilities in Colombo, Sri lanka. In Queen Elizabeth quay development project in 2000, the damage at the bottom of steel tubular piles were occurred when piles were driven into subsoil for piled wharf structure in Stage 1. In order to prevent same incident in Stage 2 & 3, the pile driveability analysis were executed by dynamic formulas, analysis program, test driving and pile load tests. Through pile driveability analysis, prevention plans were proposed. In Colombo port expansion project in 2008, the mv method was applied to predict a primary consolidation settlement of a subsoil under a breakwater in the calculation stage. The mv was estimated from results of cone penetration tests and the final settlement by consolidation was calculated with it.

Turkey Eurasia Tunnel Project is large scale road construction project of which the total length is 14.6km. The subsea shield TBM tunnel will be constructed under Bosphorus strait and the project site is in poor condition as composite ground, high water pressure and earthquake. The design procedure of subsea tunnel was introduced with tender design materials. That procedure contains tunnel type, TBM type and the principal design items considering geological condition such as high water pressure, composite ground and seismic area. This paper states the progress for geotechnical investigation, seismic analysis and TBM tunnel design. Analysis for geotechnical investigation is in progress, aseismatic design is going on stability study for liquefaction and structure. In addition, the performance of shield TBM to be considered such as advance rate and improvement of TBM was reviewed. The plan of fire safety was also reviewed with respect to fire protection.

In this paper, a case study of drivability and bearing capacity of large diameter steel pipe piles at PTT LNG site in Thailand is introduced. The LNG facilities were designed to be founded on steel pipe pile foundations driven into the weathered rock formation overlaid by sand layers. The drivability analyses of open ended pipe piles were carried out using GRL WEAP program and the bearing capacities of the piles were estimated. Dynamic load tests were performed to evaluate end bearing resistance, and it is shown that the measured end bearing resistance is smaller than the calculated end bearing because the plugging does not develop sufficiently in case of large diameter pipe piles.

Today, In-Situ testing for measureing geotechnical characterization are divided by Cone Penetration Test, Standard Penetration Test and Dilatometer Test, and will vary depending on soil conditions have been applied (Korea Geotechnical Engineering, 2006). However, these methods can be applied on sand or soft clay soil. Now, many studies are progressing for evaluating the stiffness characteristic of rocks and IGM. and Nam moon suk(2006) did Texas Cone Penetrometer Test for designing field penetration pile intruded at rocks and IGM. but, reliability of Texas Cone Penetration Test has confidence limits because TCPT is testing in Texas centrally, and energy dose not measure Woojin Lee, etc. (1998) did calculate Standard Penetration Test Hammer`s dynamic energy efficiency by using dongjaeha analyzer. this research, we installed strain gage and accelerometer for supply existing equipment, and develop MCP that can use variety soils. this thesis, we measured energy at head and tip of Rod for evaluating energy that transport at free falling. Various soil characteristics for safe construction is necessary to understand the tests using the samples collected, and head in place an energy evaluation is conducted to evaluate the ground. The evaluation of shear modulus (or shear wave velocity) profile of the site is very important in various fields of geotechnical engineering. In the field, there exist spatial variations of shear modulus that case uncertainty in the geotechnical analysis or design. So it is necessary to evaluate the spatial variation of shear wave velocities of the soil site. In this study, the HWAW method is applied to the determination of a 3-D Vs map of soil site. The HWAW method, which is based on harmonic wavelet transforms, has been developed to determine phase and group velocities of waves. The HWAW method uses only the signal portion of the maximum local signal/noise ratio to evaluate the phase velocity in order to minimize the effect of the noise. The field testing of this method is relatively simple and fast because only one experimental setup, which consists of one pair of receivers on the surface, is needed using a short receiver spacing setup (1~3m). These characteristics make it possible to determine detailed local Vs profile in the site with lateral Vs variation and to evaluate 3-D Vs map by performing a series of tests on the grid. To estimate the applicability of the proposed method, field tests were performed. Through field applications validity and applicability of the proposed method were verified.

In the various fields of Civil Engineering, shear modulus is very important input parameters to design many constructions and to analyze ground behaviors. In general, a shear wave velocity profile is decided by various experiments before constructing a structure and, analysis and design are carried out by using decided shear wave velocity profile of the site. However, if civil structures are started to construct, the shear wave velocity will be increased more than before constructions because of confining pressure increase by the load of structure. The evaluation of the change in shear wave velocity profile is used very importantly when maintaining, managing, reinforcing and regenerating existing structures. In this study, a non-destructively geotechnical investigation method by using the HWAW method is applied to an evaluation of change in properties of the site according to construction. Generally, the space for experiments is narrow when underground of existing or on-going structures is evaluate, so a prompt non-destructive experiment is required. This prompt non-destructive experiment would be performed by various in-situ seismic methods. However, most of in-situ seismic methods need more space for experiments, so it is difficult to be applied. The HWAW method using the Harmonic wavelet transforms, which is based on time-frequency analysis, determines shear wave velocity profile. It consists of a source as well as short receiver spacing that is 1~3m, and is able to determine a shear wave velocity profile from surface to deep depth by one test on a space. As the HWAW method uses only the signal portion of the maximum local signal/noise ratio to determine a profile, it provides reliability shear modulus profile such as under construction or noisy situation by minimizing effects of noise from diverse vibration on a construction site or urban area. To estimate the applicability of the proposed method, field tests were performed in the change of geotechnical properties according to constructing a minimized modeling bent. Through this study, the change of geotechnical properties of the site was effectively evaluated according to construction of a structure.
