1굴거리 열매 추출물의 폴리페놀 함량과 항산화 활성

As an effort to develop functional ingredients and to discover their antioxidant activity, the total polyphenol content, total flavonoid content, 2,2-diphenyl-1-pcrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC), oxygen radical absorption capacity (ORAC), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) of Daphniphyllum macropodum were measured using a methanol extract and various solvent fractions. Based on the result, the total polyphenol content was highest in an ethyl acetate fraction of 212.33±1.05 mg GAE/g where the total flavonoid content was 77.96±0.21 mg QE/g. The DPPH radical scavenging activity was highest in an ethyl acetate fraction (IC50 : 47.10±1.32 μg/mL). The ethyl acetate fraction showed the highest TEAC (1052.23±13.94 mM TE/g), ORAC (9308.71±480.69 mM TE/g), and FRAP (2064.76±42.31 mM FE/g) in antioxidant capacity value. The total polyphenol and flavonoid contents significantly correlated with the antioxidant activity of D. macropodum extracts and fractions. In addition, the survival rate of HaCaT and HepG2 cells at 200 μg/mL was higher than 70%. With these results, it was confirmed that the ethyl acetate fraction of D. macropodum has great antioxidant potential. Thus, it can be expected to be developed into a specific functional ingredient.

In this paper, an 800 W high-power, full-color LED projection lighting system was designed and fabricated for landscape lighting applications. The system has 16×16 full color RBG LED arrays and four channel microprocessors to control the color of each pixel. To collimate the light of an 800 W high-power LED projection lighting system, 395×395 mm Fresnel lens was embedded in the system housing without condenser lens. In addition, the structure of the system was designed to provide heat dissipation and waterproof functions. The lighting system could project various images consisting of dots, lines, planes, characters, and pictures at a distance of 5 and 10 m. Total luminous flux, electric power consumption, and luminous efficacy were measured to be 20692 lm, 874.8 W, and 23.7 lm/W, respectively.

This study aimed to investigate the comparative evaluation of pharmacological efficacy between sulfasalazine alone and its combination with herbal medicine on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced UC in mice. Balb/c mice received 5% DSS in drinking water for 7 days to induce colitis. Animals were divided into five groups (n = 9): I-normal group, II-DSS control group, III-DSS + sulfasalazine (30 mg/kg) group, IV-DSS + sulfasalazine (60 mg/kg) group, and V-DSS + sulfasalazine (30 mg/kg) + radish extract mixture (30 mg /kg) (SRE) group. DSS-treated mice developed symptoms similar to those of human UC, such as severe bloody diarrhea and weight loss. SRE supplementation, as well as sulfasalazine, suppressed colonic length, and mucosal inflammatory infiltration. In addition, SRE treatment significantly reduced the expression of pro-inflammatory signaling molecules through the suppression of both MAPK and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF- B) signaling pathways and prevented the apoptosis of colon. Moreover, SRE administration significantly led to the up-regulation of anti-oxidant enzyme including SOD and Catalase. This is the first report that radish extract mixture combined with sulfasalazine protects one against experimental UC via the inhibition of both inflammation and apoptosis, which is highly similar to the standard-of-care sulfasalazin.

This paper presents the volume concentration analysis of an n-dimensional ball (n-ball) defined in Euclidean space, near the surface and the equator, for efficient high-dimensional data processing. To quantify the volume concentration of an n-ball, two measures are defined: one measure as the volume ratio of a whole n-ball to the differential slice near the surface, and the other as the volume ratio of a whole n-ball to the differential slice near the equator. Without direct computation of the volumes of n-dimensional geometrical objects, both measures can be obtained as a function of the dimension of ball and the thickness of differential slice. According to computer simulation results for an n-ball, the surface volume concentration and the equator volume concentration show the changing patterns similar to each other, but the surface volume concentration is significantly stronger than the equator volume concentration. Finally, by interpreting the volume concentration of an n-ball as the distribution of high-dimensional data samples, a theoretical basis is provided for the planning of efficient high-dimensional data processing.

This study had developed a combustion experiment system for a cool flame research in microgravity environment. For the development of the system, various combustion experiment devices used on the ISS were reviewed, and the shape, size, thickness, and material of the combustion chamber were designed by the standard requirements based on the Korea Standard (KS) and Japan Industrial Standard (JIS). The system was loaded on a reduced-gravity aircraft (so-called, parabolic flight campaign) at Zero-G Corporation in the United States for the cool flame experiment. For the experiment in the aircraft which simulated microgravity environment, structural analysis of a combustion chamber under the condition of pressurized and depressurized cases using a finite elements method was carried out. Furthermore, the factor of safety for the combustion system in the aircraft where hyper-gravity (9G) occurred was calculated. It was confirmed that the system was structurally safe for parabolic flight experiment under microgravity.

Although there have been many studies on pile foundations subjected to vertical load domestically and externally, the domestic studies on pile under horizontal load have been limited. The purpose of this study is to develop a pile, which allows the pile member and column member to overlap with each other, and the lateral load to be supported not only by a pillar member but also by pile member in order to address the problems above. The results of field load test showed that the horizontal resistance of pile is higher by 4-4.5 times compared to general ones. It was found that the improved horizontal resistance corresponds to the wing area of the upper fixed pile, suggesting that the resistance is proportional to the wing area. The 1/β depth should be considered for the reinforcement against horizontal force to a proper depth.

LLichens are complex microorganisms in which fungi (mycobionts) and algae (photobionts) live in symbiosis by forming limbs. Most of the fungi that make up lichens, such as the Burleighi, are asymptomatic fungi, accouting for almost 99% of all kmown lichen species. In this study, polyphenol content, flavoid content, and antioxidant activity were investigated to inquire the possibility of Xanthoparmelia meximcana as a cosmetic material. Total polyphenol contens were calculated to be 500 μg/mL and four antioxidant assays whereas DPPH, ABTS, and hydroxyl radical scavenging were performed resulting in the range of 50_500 μg/mL (IC50). All four fractions showed no cytotoxicity up to the concentration of 100 μg/mL by MTT assay. The Xanthoparmelia meximcana would be a valuable asset for many applications, including cosmentic porducts.

Many numerical and experimental researches have been done for the unsteady flow around a flapping airfoil. The main research topics are vortex shedding, dynamic stall phenomenon, and MAV's lift and thrust generation for the flow over a flapping airfoil. Although many researches have been studied to analyze the flow for the variation of frequency and amplitude, much research is still needed. In this study, thrust generation, wake structures, and acoustic wave propagation characteristics were studied for a flapping airfoil. The governing equation was the Navier-Stokes equation with LES turbulence model, and the Optimized High-Order Compact (OHOC) scheme and 4th order Runge-Kutta method were used. The Mach number and Reynolds number were 0.3 and 1000, respectively. The analysis of mean lift and drag coefficients showed the thrust generation characteristics according to the phase angle and the reduced frequency. The wake vortex shedding and propagation characteristics of acoustic waves could be simulated using the high order method.
