The purpose of this research was to find out the conceptual status of evolution concept in termsof the interest and acceptance of evolution of high school students. We tested the interest andacceptance of evolution and then were distinguished subjects into 4 groups based on the testingresults which were which were `both high interest and acceptance of evolution`, ``high interest andlow acceptance of evolution``, low interest and high acceptance of evolution`, ``both low interest andacceptance``. We had selected total 16 students as four students from each group and interviewedthem to find out their conceptual status on evolution concept. We analyzed the interview dataaccording to the framework developed specially in this research. The group both high acceptanceand interest of evolution showed that they had highest variety of (+) conceptual status and thegroup both low interest and acceptance of evolution that they had lowest variety of (+) conceptualstatus. The implication in this research confirms that high group in acceptance makes the conceptualstatus wider and it is stored in the shape of an image within the students` cognitive structure. Thisalso makes us realize that to teach evolution effectively, the acceptance and interest of evolutionshould be considered along with the need of the teaching-learning programs using various visualaudiolesson materials regarded to the evolutionary concept.

This study investigated elementary school students` conceptual understanding of the greenhouseeffect. Data collected from 293 elementary school students, who were 6 graders of elementaryschools in the National Capital region, and Gyeongsang region. Considerable number of them definedthe greenhouse effect as the temperature increase in the globe, namely, the global warming ratherthan the exact description of interactive meaning of maintaining the high temperature of the globewhich is the consequential result from the greenhouse gases, the cause of greenhouse effect. Andit was surveyed that the misconception was formed because the terminology of greenhouse effecthas been used in analogy to explain the natural phenomenon in easy way. And both of the boyand girl students recognized that the global warming was the major reason of the greenhouse effect,and more preferred understanding was the negative influence than the positive influence on theglobal environment. Therefore, the development of teaching materials are important to form thecorrect environmental or scientific concepts to the students.

The purpose of this study was to survey the elementary school students` conceptual understandingof the global warming. Subjects were 293 sixth grade elementary school students in theNational Capital region and Gyeongsang region. They had the comparatively positive opinion on thelevel of understanding the concept of global warming of their own. The survey on the explanationpattern for the global warming depending on the gender of the elementary school students revealedthat the most cases were correct in explaining only the result(phenomenon) of the global warmingand the mistaken explanation on both of the reason and phenomenon of the global warming wasabout 21.5%. In this respect, the significant difference was not shown between the male and female( p>.05). In general, it was surveyed that most of the students had the misconception on the causeand result of global warming. With regards to the reason of appearing the global warming, the mostof the students answered for environment contamination, ozone layer destruction, smoke from the factoriesand automobiles. With regards to the influences of global warming, it was known that mostof the answers was related to the ascending of the sea water level due to the thawing and climate changes.

Helping students improve their creative problem solving (CPS) skills is one of the major objectivesof science education. The essential components of CPS are the generation and testing of various ideasthat are both novel and useful. By reflecting the studies on the structural and functional characteristicsof the human brain that are related to affection, behavior, and cognition, the evolutionaryprocesses occurring between and within organisms, and the evolutionary attributes embedded inscience itself and in individual scientists` scientific activities consisting of blind variation and selectiveretention (BVSR) processes, a brain-based evolutionary model of CPS was developed. The modelconsists of three components and three steps. The three components are the affective (A), behavioral(B), and cognitive (C) components. Each component is composed of three steps: Diversifying→ Estimating (Executing, Evaluating) → Furthering (ABC-DEF). The model is brain-based inthat it incorporates the affective component which is based on the limbic system and prefrontal lobesof the human brain involved in emotional aspects, the behavioral component which is associated withthe sensorimotor areas involved in behavioral activities, and the cognitive component which is basedon the prefrontal lobes involved in the thinking parts of CPS. The model is evolutionary in thatit proceeds from the diversifying step to generate variants at each component to the estimating stepto test and select the useful or valuable items among the variants, and then to the furthering stepto apply or extend the selected items.

In order to solve an issue of manpower and implement an appropriate pattern of education, wetried a study on the actual utilization status of professional education personnel, who is working atdomestic science hall and training program of them. By interviewing professional education personnelof 7 domestic science museums, the utilization status with training program was analyzed. Thequestionnaires for the interview were composed with number of working professional educationpersonnel, recruiting period, incentive systems, and status of training program. The exhibitioncommentators and education lecturers who were recruited at the beginning of the year and wererequired for earning beyond a bachelor`s degree. Working personnel has been supported by providingvarious incentive systems, such as waiting room only for the working personnel, in-service trainingprogram, and certification. It was revealed that most institutions carried out the education programfor introducing exhibits but there was not enough education program about basic knowledge onscience and experimental learning program.

The purpose of this study was to examine effects of using learning motivation induction strategyon the learning motivation and achievement in high school biology instruction. Subjects were 118students of 12th grade in 5 classes were sampled from a high school in Incheon metropolitan city.Learning motivation strategy had three components of participation motivation, continuancemotivation and continuation motivation. The students was divided into two groups; the one wascontrol group which was taught by traditional teaching and the other was experimental group whichwas taught by using learning motivation strategy in high school biology instruction. So, the instructionusing learning motivation strategy improved continuance motivation and continuation motivationas well as participation motivation, which led students to have motivation during entire classes.In addition, it was shown that using learning motivation strategy was more effective on improvingthe achievement than teaching by traditional explaining. In conclusion, it can have positive effecton learning motivation in studying science to develop.

The purpose of this study was to analyze pre-service science teachers` perception of STEAMeducation and science and art STEAM class by pre-service science teachers. 12 pre-service scienceteachers at college of education and 6 school teachers who have professional careers of STEAMeducation in primary and secondary schools participated in this study. 11 research`s steps wereapplied to this study: analyzing of pre-service science teachers` perception on STEAM class beforethis study→lecture of STEAM education by researcher→analyzing of pre-service science teachers`perception on STEAM class after lecture of STEAM education→first workshop for design of scienceand art class→self & peer group feedback and interview→second workshop→microteaching andvideo-taping on the class of science and art→self and peer group evaluation→analyzing of preservicescience teachers` changed perception on STEAM class→analyzing of video-taping on theclass of science and art by science teacher STEAM professional group→analyzing of instructionalprocess applying in this study to develop science and art class professionalism. This study could helpthat pre-service science teachers and school science teachers find significant suggestions to designand teach science and art class for STEAM education.

This study was intended to develop the scientific inquiry program which could create an activecommunication skill, and to verify its effectiveness with peer review activity for the high schoolstudents. Based on the experimental level of Herron`s openness, the developed scientific inquiryprogram consisted of three different levels (Levels I, II, and III) regarding ``Plant Transpiration``. Itwas developed whose level of openness sequentially increased. Test of communication ability andachievement test were used to determine the effect of the peer review activity. Study also evaluatedvarious students` reports and their first and the final reports were compared. Developed programconsisted of 4 different stages which included the orientation stage and inquiry activities with eachdifferent level regarding plant transpiration, separated by openness level. In order to promote communicationskills, the number of items to be finished by students was made to increase as the levelwent from I to III. The experimental group with the peer review activity showed an improvementboth in the communication skills and concept achievement. Survey results showed that the scientificinquiry program with gradually higher level of openness gave students less burden. Through theinquiry process, students regarded the peer review activity as a scientific communication stage. Thequality of students` reports was examined by an analysis tool. The communication process throughpresentation activity by a control group did not show a positive change in their quality. But thereports by an experimental group were written with a well-organized frame and more good qualitycontents. For the inquiry program such as Level III, which contains a broad range to be examinedby students, the peer review activity helped students to improve their reports for sure.
